Good day, I am considering an S10 in the near future. I am trying to figure if I am going to do any off road riding, and I figured out that I don't know where those roads are? Is there a map source that outlines forest service roads, and jeep trails in the greater North Carolina area? Does Mapsource (garmin) show those roads? and can you route them in the garmin GPS? I am a long time rider of back roads which I currently cover with my FJR. I am hoping to broaden my riding by getting into a bike that can handle some off road adventure riding. Your feedback would be much appreciated!

Thanks, Dan

Holy crap. You live in North Carolina and don't know where the forest roads are in GSM area? Amazing back road riding. Some of the best! Talk to Dan at GSM Motorent in Townsend, TN. He knows them all. Will rent you an ST so that you can really decide for yourself that it is the coolest machine on the planet (no bias on this forum).

Or Google forest roads in GSM park. Other members who live in your area will certainly have their favorites (maybe they will share their location).

Get a DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer of North Carolina. If a road paved or otherwise has a name or number it will be in there.

Thanks for the info, I have seen the video from GSM and wow - what a bike! The maps from DeLorme look exactly like what I need.

Appreciate the help!

I've been a lifelong Appalachian resident - much of it in NC. I have been lucky to have a job the last 20 years that absolutely necessitated owning the Delorme Gazeteer maps. They are indeed very thorough. However, they leave lots of detail out. In addition to these old standby paper maps, I have found the ultimate complement...

Buy a Garmin GPS (I chose the Montana but others will likely work)
Buy the TOPO maps for the SE US and upload to Basecamp and GPS
Subscribe to the BirdsEye Satellitel Imagery ($30 per year) and upload to Basecamp and GPS

Now you will have the most ridiculously detailed set of roads (or lack thereof) in full detail with topo lines all superimposed over a satellite picture. It is freaking amazing!!! You can get lost like you have never been lose before and fully know where you are the whole time even if you don't realize it.
