Cousin is on the road on his Super T. Just got a phone message from him that the lock fell out of Yamaha side case. The one with extra cash, IPad etc. Said it won't open.
Anyone have similar experience or advice I can pass on this evening as to how to get box open? I don't have the OEM boxes but have read about the locks.

Just stick your finger in the place where the key lock would of been and hook your finger and twist counter-clockwise. ::024:: It will be hard :mad: but i had to do it to mind when Yamaha Corp. sent me a new one for FREE ??? when my side hard case developed a crack, i got to keep my slightly broken one too. (It was a show room bike and people couldn't lift their damn leg and hit the case). But the really bad part about these OEM hardcases that there is no parts breakdown for them ::010:: . Its either you buy a new one or your stuck with your broken one. Just give Yamaha a call and complain that it is outragous to spend another $478.49 since you can't order one single part to fix your broken case. ::002:: Either way just try out what i did to unlock my new one since it was locked and didnt come with a lock assembly installed. ::021::

Emergency Procedure to get box open is to remove bottom of box by taking out screws. Whole bottom comes off fairly easily. I think its six screws. Not so sure of the procedure to get top open without key cylinder though.

What dirtsailor said above does work - Push down on top of the case while hooking your finger in there & turn counterclockwise - I opened a closed one with no cylinder in place exactly like that.....
Good luck!

Mine were loose w/in a month of install at the dealer and were being difficult to open. I put a little blue LockTite on the tiny little screws.

Definitely an item on the annual maintenance check list, thnx for the reminder!! ::008::

Cheers, d ::001::

Its those darn T10 anti tamper proof torx screws they come loose and make life difficult. Lock tite them in, then buy somebody elses (different manufacturer) cases and sell your factory cases to some poor schmuck.
