I know, sounds crazy! But after living in Colorado virtually my entire life (and I'm an olde fart), my wife and I are moving to Nebraska! Many many factors played into our decision - and although it seems to make sense, it's hard to say goodbye to the town I grew up in and lived in most of my life.

Just starting the process as we move car and pickup loads of "stuff" over. The actual closing on our home in Sidney is set for July 8 - so just a month away. In the meantime we will fill a storage unit there and try to dispose of as much "stuff" as possible that we don't need.

Our new house is slightly larger, but available garage and storage for my toys is less, so it's going to be a culture shock for me!

Wish us luck!!!

Oh yes, I'll need some ideas on where to find twisty roads to ride in Nebraska.- besides interstate on/off ramps!! ::26:: ::001::

We're doing a similar process, though with less time spent in the current location. Waiting on the house to sell here before moving to MS. You will have a new area in riding range. Lots of exploring to do, which you will hopefully enjoy. Not much culture shock for your move. Ride over to Scottsbluff and see the lighthouse there. ;D Really. Ride East on 80 to Ogallala and then pick up 61 heading North. Should be pleasant this time of year.

We made the move from Fairbanks, Alaska to Montana almost five years ago. We did it because of Montana's short and gentle winters ???... and family. Moving was relatively easy for us since I was an Army brat and then spent 27 years in the Army as well. However, moving is always a stressful time and I hope yours goes well as does your adjustment to your new living environment. Just remember that the winds in Nebraska are there to allow motorcyclists to get some wear on the sides of their tires.

Got pulled by a Nebraska Trooper near Scottsbluff last October while returning from Vintage Days at Barber. Nicest LEO I've ever encountered; got me both by airplane and laser, but no performance award was issued.

So Rod - you'll have to change your handle to NebRider ::015::
Too bad you you didn't try and sell your house about 1.5 years ago - we may have bought and only had to move 6-7 blocks. ::025::

Yeah, I'm not sure what I'm gong to about my handle. I've had that (same as my email) for a kazillion years! But then I still use st_rider and I haven't owned a ST1100/1300 for many years. But at least that one matches the Super Tenere too.

The market is exploding here and we had no problem selling our house. We didn't even have to list it!

Yes, the riding will be different there, but I will be a little closer to the one state I have never been in (North Dakota) so maybe finally I can finish off all 50!!!

Rod, there are no really curvy roads in Ne. but there are many narrow two lanes winding thru the sand hills between the small towns that are very scenic with very little traffic.

I did it almost exactly one year ago today: abandoned my lifelong home in Pennsylvania for Florida. Less winter, happier wife.

Garage-saled off a lifetime of stuff, drove 100 miles, and lived in a truck camper for 2 months waiting for PA house to sell.

I can't wait to leave. On the plus side, once you leave "home", going anywhere else is easy. As much as I'm not a fan of FL, I'd rather move West or try a little further north (GA, TN, NC) than go clock more time in PA and just wait to die there.

Enjoy the adventure ahead.

Good luck on the move ColoRider. DM and I just moved a few days ago. We had forgotten how enormous a task it is to move. Sure you know it's big, but until you're in the middle of it again, you just can't fully recall what a total PITA it is to move.

We did the opposite of you and we downsized houses. I desperately need to build another out building for bikes and other gas guzzling stuff in my life, but that's not going to happen until we get the previous house on the market and sold. I believe it will get listed tomorrow. Love to have a contract on it by Sunday... ;)

On the surface it does seem wrong to leave such a beautiful state as Colorado. Obviously you've come to terms with it, and I do wish you well in the move. I had to come to terms with moving 62 miles from work. The idea of living on a mountain, in a log house with an already established ATV trail outweighed the extra 17 minutes it will cost getting to work. Time will tell if that was the right way to go.

Where in Nebraska? Long state to ride across, says this Iowan.
Sidney, which is about 160 miles and 2 1/4 hours from Loveland. We plan to keep our present doc/dentist/etc for the foreseeable future and just do day trips over when we have an appointment. We have great neighbors on our block as well as many great friends in our church. Those will be the ones we miss. I will not miss the traffic here. My little hometown that was less than 10K people growing up is now pushing 80K and it only has the infrastructure to handle about 20K. Sidney is about 7K and has been about that for as long as I can remember. It's the home of Cabelas, but that's another story, if anyone is following the financial and business news. The housing market is pretty soft there due to questionable future of Cabales.

The big move has started! So far I have made 7 pickup load trips and storing "stuff" in a storage unit until our closing in 3 weeks. We will have a mover do the bulk/heavy stuff on our final days here.

I never dreamed we had accumulated so much STUFF (crap?)!!!!!

Have you looked into the geology of Nebraska at all? I was just cruising Streets & Trips looking for windy roads and found hundreds of lakes. Could be glacial? Had to zoom in a ways before any curvy roads showed up... around those lakes.
I've been to Sydney... well, Cabelas anyway. ::26::

Actually, Sidney IS Cabelas!!!

I'll do some exploring, particularly north toward the sand hills.
