I guess the title could be changed to "I rode her to hard and blew a hole in the rubber".

Yeah, the final drive is basically the pumpkin.

Gotchya. Pumpkin = Final Drive, Drive Shaft ≠ Final Drive, U-Joint ≠ Final Drive

Title somewhat adjusted. You're welcome. ::021::

Well... it isn't a differential - a differential accounts for the different rotational speed of two wheels on a single axle. And does that with spider gears inside the bevel gear carrier. I guess we could call the "pumpkin" a bevel gear housing and the left side of the swing arm a shaft housing. ::014:: ::014:: ::012:: ::26:: ::26:: ::017:: all parts of the final drive, including the shaft and "U" joint. ::025::

Alright... Issue resolved...

Here's what it looks like inside that rubber boot FWIW:

Everything looked fine, but I slopped some Moly grease in there as best I could just for kicks.

Then on to the repair...

And after a half a dozen coats of super duper rubber cement type adhesive:

Function over form here folks! Plus it's 95% hidden by the heel plate (that's been removed for these pictures).

I'll revisit it in the morning to decide if a couple more coats is necessary. Then it'll be good to go for awhile, and I'll check on it again come winter.
