I am looking for a large blow up balloon. I figure if i put my bike, on the side, while I am alone and cannot pick it up I could put an inflatable balloon under it...hook it up to my electric pump for my tire repair kit...and inflate it enough to get it in more of an upright position so I then can lift it up.
Any insight(s) would be appreciated.
i alway though that some one could make a device, like this, and market it. Most bikes are difficult to lift up alone. Maybe if I was 24 I could do it but in my "golden years" I find lifting an almost 600 pound bike with all the "stuff" on it more....difficult.

Nice to know that you are not looking for a balloon to ride your pillion as a manikin like passenger. The subject line had me curious...

Inflating with air wouldn't work. You would need a gas that's lighter than air, such as helium.

To lift 500 lbs, you would need approximately 176,000 litres / 6200 cubic feet of helium.

This is what 7300 cubic feet of helium look like. Those cylinders are 9" in diameter.

You're gonna need bigger panniers. ;D

I think you misunderstood just what he wants to do. He wants to slide a balloon under the bike and raise it up a foot or two to make it easier to stand up, not fly it down the road.

Ahh. I thought he wanted to tie the balloon to the grab rail and lift it upright.

Obviously the Jack Daniels is having the required effect. :D

I think what you need is one of those emergency bladders they use on fire trucks to rescue people trapped under upturned cars etc. Probably not a cheap option one would hazard?

Off road vehicles use air bladders to get out of sand and...

Not sure what air pump you have but it should be high volume. Plus your bike will not be running when it is laying on its side so the battery would take a big hit.

I think you are better off carrying a block and tackle setup or the device ADV Motorad is selling

I'm looking for some kind of jack too. I've taken to carrying a ratcheting strap but a strap alone needs a convenient anchor. I'm trying to come up with a collapsable, adjustable pole with a foot on the bottom, roller on the top, and a strap anchor point. It also has t ok be light weight and compact. I better not drop the bike any time soon.

Rocky, I knew this would go in that direction . . . ;-) I normally carry some" fairly" large balloons myself when I'm out on the bike. But although they are meant for heavy use, I'm not sure they could lift the bike . . . :) Sorry, but I digress. . . . .

First, the question is GENIUS!!! My biggest fear out alone on long trips is dropping this beast. What a simple answer. The Russian bag weights 4-5 pounds, is about 21" x 9" x 7" and looks like it could easily lift the bike (The Aussie bag is apx. 10 pounds). And I think a little inflater could get it up enough to wrestle the bike vertical.

But I like Boondocker's idea also and this could be a much lighter and more compact option. I'm going to sit back and read where this goes, but you have me excited to conquere this fear of mine! But I will not leave for Alaska without something like this! Thanks riders . . . Luke

PS, Boondocker, why are we yacking and not riding. My bike is at the shop having a bigger spring put in, but I'll be ready soon! Oh, and Merry CHristmas ;-)

2Lukes, did you forget I might be riding with ya? If so, we won't be needing those pickup aids. I've pretty much mastered lifting this beast. (Karson convinced me that practice makes perfect ) ::) Sorry kid, I just couldn't resist.

And besides 2-Lukes, EVERYBODY knows you crash still right side up. What's to lift?
