Test rode one today, unbelievable power literally, 3rd gear wheelies off the throttle out of corners, serious bike indeed, made my s10 feel heavy, dated, and so lame :-\

Did you notice that the exhaust is directly under the sump? Better buy a very good skid plate. My Tenere is a lot of things but lame is definitely not one of them.

I've always liked KTM. They build a hell of a bike.

Don't enjoy wrenching any more than necessary, so I can't imagine ever owning one again. But if they could get their ownership experience up to Yamaha standards I would definitely consider them. They build a hell of a bike.

Dind't you burn your bottom? ;)

Incredibly hot in there, they must solve this problem but is an incredible bike.
Let's wait some time to see how if it works.

Nothing wrong with the Tenere, but bikes like the KTM lift manufacturers game. BMW have upped the anti, now KTM will Yamaha follow? The future is rosy when company’s can make adventure bikes like we have recently seen. Including the awesome Tenere. ::022::

Before I found the 990adv to be an ugly bike and now, when the new one came up, I found the old one better looking, way better. Yamaha is no poser, but this thing is imo plain ugly.
Then this exhaust pipes under the sump. What where they thinking!?

::026:: to pretty much every comment above.

Great bikes, I would love one, but not as my main bike, I am OK with 11k going on my Tenere in 14 months, trying to pile miles on a KTM like that would bother me, trying to sell it a few years down the line with 40k on the clock of a 3-4 year old bike would be a painful experience.

Not too bothered on being down on power, traded down from 200BHP bikes because it was to tempting to go too fast all the time.

I sold a 2007 KTM Adventure and a 2006 Zx-14 to purchase the S10. KTM was fun when it worked but left me stranded 3 times and I was very good at pulling the tanks, skid plates, crash bars. It had a very poor quality electrical system and in the process of trying to resolve my issues visited the Super Duke site and they had the same problems.
Fun issues as failed ignition switch contacts then later a wire breaking in the ignition switch harness at the point entering the frame. 2 factory voltage regulators before installing a Ricks. A very poor EFI system. I purchased the bike at 3300 miles and sold it at 15,000. Probably had it sorted at that point but just did not enjoy the bike. I don't think a Orange bike is in my future.
The ZX-14 was a great bike! Set up for drag racing and it never had a issue due to Kawasaki, can't say the same for myself. It would pull 9.1 in the quarter mile so very fast. It had to go to keep me alive or from ending up in jail. I just don't want much more power than the S10. It has lots of low end power coming out of corners and can beat the hell out of it and not be going 150 mph in the first quarter mile. The guys I ride with both had FJR's and they never work on them and watched this site. The proven reliability of the S10 just sold me and it is the best all around motorcycle I have owned.

That is a sharp bike, but yeah, I'm one of those who wouldn't want or need the extra power, especially if I have to sacrifice reliability or ease of maintenance to get it. However I bet it is lighter, which would be a benefit. I'm happy with the S10 but that is a nice bike!

Would anyone here really go 20,000 km between oil changes with this bike? that seems like a big call to me!

But this bike comes with several failures

the most important is the air filter case that it´s not completely seal and lets the dust come in to the cilinders... imagine what it´s the result!!!

I bet it skats! And probably a hoot on tarmac. (LC8's have hooligan DNA)

But I agree it looks about as dirt worthy as the Strom.

Looks can be deceiving. It is definitely 90% more dirt worthy than any Strom, as is the 990. This will be the most exciting bike to come out this year. Past owners of 990s have stated the new bike is better in every way, which includes dirt. Owned a new 950 S back in 2006 and it was pretty awesome but rode my pals new 990 Baja last week and, oh my, much improved and faster. The 1190 will be more too, much more. Only a novice would compare this bike to a Strom.

Some problems of this bike... from a user!

1. Heated grips feel loose on the bars, too much free play, fixed the left side by tightening the screw underneath. Right side will have to look into further.
2. Brake light flickers constantly when riding, most likely the pressure switch in the abs unit. Have herd of one other case of an 1190 with the same problem.
3. I had my engine completely shut off yesterday while riding, I believe the cause may be the side stand spring, allowed the side stand switch to operated which I believe there is already a recall for. This has only happened once.
4. Dust in air box, this hasn't been a problem for me as I've only had my bike for 2 weeks and I haven't been off-road yet, my local dealer told me there is a recall on the air-box which involves fitting a pre filter set up, KTM Australia are rolling out kits for this recall over the next few weeks.
