I had 2 Kristas installed by Clearwater last week. Although they would have fit under the fairing, they are big, and they would have had to have been mounted very high to keep the fender from hitting them, if the fork were to be fully compressed. Also, if mounted under and close to the headlights, they would not have presented the triangle of lights which catches people's attention better than a single light. Instead they were mounted on the crash bar sourced from Yamaha. It took a while to make the mounting work.

These puppies are bright! You can see a long way down the road at night. If you turn the dimmer down and flash the high beams while lane splitting, lots of cars make room.

Gee, that must mean they're more that just 'recognition lights' as some people feel they need to tirelessly emphasize oooompteeen million times. :D Not that you won't be recognized, but that's not the only use for these lights. Thanks for the info ;)

Yawwwn...BOTH! The Kristas can be use as driving lights, as you stated in so many worrds, while the Glenda makes a good fog light. ::002::

The point being that's an awefully high price to pay for lights that can only be used to increase your visibility...it doesn't make sense and it's not true. ::001:: ::002::

T38, please explain the last sentence. Not sure what you are saying. I am considering the Kristas.

I second that. The Clearwater lights are NOT inexpensive and they all light up the road (just look at the specifications). One is a larger size and one is smaller, it's on the website that you have seen (I wish it had more info too) I get the feeling they are a smaller company trying the best they can. They do seem to have a lot of racing gear. I for one have experienced wonderful customer help or relations from the technician there. They sent everything I needed with no questions to help a wrong collar and bolt size. (they will grow along with the Super Tenere I hope) They were receptive to my input for what I thought could be revised as well.
I am thinking of adding the Krista's or maybe one Krista as I have a pair of Glenda's and they are great at making myself recognized and lighting up the road when on hi beam ......
Thats all folks ....
Best,
-DT

Yeah, let me explain the info gap. Somebody posted -I think in another thread- reporting he had bought some Clearwater lights (either the Glenda or Krista) and kept repeating that they were 'recognition lights' .. as if that was the only thing they were good for. I strongly disagree with that premise.

The Clearwaters products (both Glenda and Krista) are great products that put out copious amounts of light..and they're much more than recognition lights. I think it's a disservice to put out info telling people that they're paying big bucks for something that only increases their visibility to ohters...although that is a very desirable side effect.

For those that have installed Kristas...

Can you wire these up to the factory aux light connector (fused at 20A)? The install instructions on Clearwaters site show a 25A fuse direct to the battery.

Is it necessary to go straight to the battery or could you pick up power from a fuseblock or PC8 also?

Thanks for the help.

I don't think they draw anywhere near that amperage so I am sure the PC8 would be perfect.
I can tell you they are very happy to help out if you give them a call - !!
I went to my battery with the supplied fuse as it was easier for me but would have used fuse block if I had installed one .... They are still working great for lighting up the road at night and being seen during the day ....
best,

Not problem at all. A pair of Kristas draw about 6 amps countinuous. The accesory light connector you are talking about is already fused at 20A, so no need to keep the 25A fuse and holder for the Kristas, just a waste of space.

Thanks guys. Went ahead with the PC8 route and ordered and will use the aux connector to trigger the switched power on the PC8. I plan on mounting my Kristas on my altrider bars just like the OP.

Couldn't help myself, went with the Krista's. I figure it's money well spent - good daytime lights ( I commute 90% of the time on the S10) and good enough night lighting for the occasion when I get caught out after dark.

The fact they go to full-on when I flash my high beams or my horn is a plus.

Problem was I wanted them relatively high and wide for the best impact (to oncoming traffic and for getting light down the road). So I made my own bracket. And now that I've used it for a few weeks, I'm thinking of a better option. We'll see - too hot right now to mess with it.

Does Clearwater have a Super Tenere kit avaliable? That is to say, what brackets do I need to use to mount these lights?
As of a few months ago, they do have an S10 specific kit to include a bracket for mounting the lights just below the headlights.

I didn't want Clearwater to wire the Kristas into the high beam switch, but they did.
They also wired the Glendas into the high beams. Needless to say, all those light are very bright.
Giving me multiple options of luminosity. I've had cops move over when fully lit!!!

I also wanted the Kristas mounted under the headlights, but the guys said they wouldn't fit.
Though I do believe they thought I wanted them mounted on the forks, which would obviuosly hit some plastic.

With the mounting holes from the factory and the right bracket, the Kristas should be able to mount under. For me, clear strobes ended up under the headlights.

PS: Great looking bike jackfis!!! ::026::
PSS: Spider bought Clearwater too, where did he mount?
Anyone know where I can get these upper fork light mounts?
