Hi Everyone..
I'm Ken from Austin Texas

I drank the cool aid and picked up a 2013 S10 last week..

Pretty excited with the purchase. took it on a 230 mile break in run on Sunday.. Pretty happy with it but has some quarks I need to figure out. Definitely nothing I wasn't expecting from Lurking on this website.

Bike is super comfy. Abs and tcs are a little overkill but helps the bike track straighter. Engine performance a little lacking for a 1200 cc. Bike. Handling is awesome for a 600 lbs bike and does well in the sand and gravel with OEM tires. Breaks are good but you have to consider abs on dirt as you can't really brake slide into a corner and power out. Suspension seems ok.. Though need time to break in and play with clickers. Don't like that the blinkers do not auto reset. That's the only thing I miss on the Harley. My enduro pants already scratched the gas tank. Definitely needs a skid plate as one good rock will destroy the engine case (ordered). Speedo is about 5 mph fast vs my GPS. Overall pretty happy. Need more time to farkle and make it work for me.

See you on the road/trail!

best regards
Ken

Welcome on, Kenaroo from Austin. Well done on the new bike. Mine is waiting for me, and also I'm waiting on the three feet of snow to abate. Have fun on that boy, and let's be careful out there. ::004:: to the Forum. R ::022::

Keneroo, welcome to the forum and the new ride. Coming off a Harley, you have to understand on the Yamaha it comes to life at 5000 rpm, where the Harley is out of steam at 5000rpm. Once you break it in, have fun once in awhile over the 5k range and come back and tell us if your power is still off for a 1200cc. There is less torque, sure, but I think the overall power delivery is applied just differently. I remember the first time I opened it up over 5k and thought how much it kept pulling.
I can't help but get a huge smile when i come across a series of twisties where I can keep the bike 4500-7000 rpm in 3rd or 4th gear. The bike is good in that range. It will loosen up some and is noticeable past 5k miles.

Hey there, Ken!

A big ol' "Howdy" from another Texan. I'm down in Corpus, but get up to Austin all the time, as well as to the Hill Country. I also love the "BBQ Corridor"... Luling, Lockhart, Lexington, Taylor, etc. Always looking for a reason to go riding up anywhere up there.

You gonna' be going to the MotoGP race at COTA in April?

Congrats on your new sled! ::008::

Welcome from Oklahoma Kenaroo... The more miles you put on it, the better it gets. I have over 7k now and it has settled down quite nicely. Plus, you get to know the bike and ride through the quirks. As all motorcycles, they each have a personality that you have to get to know... ::021::

::004:: Welcome Ken first post and with a picture nice. Some time in saddle and things will smooth out and the systems will really work for you. Most of us were not used to ABS or TCS but I for one like them now and Yamaha has integrated them very well in this package. Get ready to spend farkle money, its so addicting
