Since putting on the K60s I have noticed my TC light flash more often than on the Battlewings. I understand they won't have the same grip but I was surprised on dry pavement Pulling away from a stop with a good amount of throttle the TC light is flashing. If it didn't have the light I would have no idea it was doing anything. No wiggle or slip at all. Anyone else experience this? I have about 500 Miles on the K60s so far. Running about 40 PSI rear 36PSI front.

Turn the TCS "off". Then you will have an idea. You'll get "wiggle and slip". The TCS is blinking because it is working to PREVENT the "wiggle and slip".

I realize that. Perhaps I wasn't clear. My question is has anyone had a similar experience with the K60s on dry pavement.

The shortcomings of that tire aren't discussed very much in type on the forum. Get some owners to talk in person or on a phone and you find out the truth.

You think it blinks now...wait until you try it in the rain!

Yes it blinks a lot if you grab a handful of throttle in the dry. Thing I hate most about them are their tracking in rain grooves. I know that many here like the Battlewings. But I really hated that tire. Barely got 5k miles out of the OEM set. Not very confidence inspiring on the road. The K60s for me are about the same in terms of riding on the pavement but at least they last longer. They are not the perfect do it all tire by any means. Tires are like oil threads. Each person has there own thoughts. Just try them out and decide for yourself.

I certainly expect a lot of TC action on wet pavement just wasn't expecting it on dry as much. I'm not concerned about it as the TC seems to handle slip fine. Overall I been cornering on pavement the same as I did with the BW. I haven't ridden them much on the dirt. Just a few back roads with hard pack and ball bearing gravel on top....no tire does very well on that. Next weekend I head to the Berkshire Big Adventure in MA we'll see how they preform on those roads.

Just remember, the TCS can only help control the BACK tire. The front is still 100% up to you.

Through out my S10s stint on K60s the TC light was only a merest twist of the throttle away in the dry on good tarmac. I lasted just under 5kmiles (from memory) before I could stand the lack of traction no more :D
I do think the K60 front isn't as grip free as the rear as had reason to test its mettle under full brake force avoiding a Range Rover that changed lanes in front of me at 60mph but other makes are probably better still at this.
So I'm not a fan of K60s, too much emperors new clothes imo, ie there are better tyres for mixed use and they seem to be rated mostly on their extended mileage ability though I believe most of those miles are ridden when the rear is as square as a car tyre.

Yes to the TC light, especially TC1, with K60 rear at 40 psi on dry tarmac. The TC intervention is imperceptible in this instance. Kudos to Yamaha on that. Heaven forbid I should pull a wheelie or something.

I find a stiff-carcassed, hard-treaded, bias plied, lug patterned tire to be very suitable for heavy touring and light off-roading. If that's not your riding envelope, then surely there are better tire choices for you. I tend to ride with enough right wrist restraint to rarely engage the TC, 10 times as much restraint if it's wet.

I'm certainly not complaining or being critical of the tire. So far I like them. The TC flash on dry pavement in TC1 and in touring mode just reinforces my need for caution on wet. So far my hooliganism has been relegated to dirt roads with TC2 and love the slight step out when you give it a a good twist. On road I ride pretty conservatively and more so on wet.

Yes. More so after re-flash.
Look, if you want tires that will handle off road well and have full tarmac contact, while you get all trigger happy on the trottle, it's just not gonna happen. If you want to drag the bike, warm up the tires properly and get as close to slicks as possible.
this is obvious with a 50/50 tire on a powerful bike. ::021::

For the record, I'm on my 2nd K60 rear after getting 14,000 miles of excellent service on the first one. Just thought I'd try to wear out the front K60 with a matching rear. I ride 2-up with my wife, loaded with camping gear. I'll give up some high speed cornering ability before compromising the loaded backcountry requirement. It's a big ADV bike.

TC off always, many powerslides and burnouts in the dry, lots of 3rd-4th gear spinning in the wet. Definitely flip it over to touring mode for rain. I'm actually trying to kill my K60 rear because the front is gone and I want to try some Big Blocks. Literally every corner below 4th gear is an attempt at a powerslide. I've got almost 5k on the rear, almost 12 on the front. The front has lost a dramatic amount of grip, making any hard street riding sketchy. I used to be able to drag the pegs, now the front starts pushing way beforehand.

with a good amount of throttle
Perhaps use a little restraint? Where did you think you were going, after all? ;)

Or haven't any of you figured out yet that the TCS light is a dollar sign, as in your dollars flying down the road out of your pocket on the way to buying a new tire.

Yeah, the only reason I would put a set of K60's on is a trip over 6,000 miles. Other than that, No reason to use them.

I suspect you're kidding. Sorry to hear you don't get out more. 8) I mean hey, take a week or two off in the summer. ;) Go someplace new.

Gotta love the ability to depart pavement and have some traction w/o running a tire that dies in <3k.
