T-Rex engine guard and asks plate do not protect adequately.
I wanted to write to let you know about two failures I have had. ThevT-Rex products looked to be well made on the web site, but when I got them, they seemed to be less sturdy than my former versions from Altrider that had held up well to many hard drops and impacts to large rocks on trails. I wanted the extra coverage their engine guards appeared to provide.
The first failure was the engine guard. I went down on the left side. The guard bent at a mounting point collapsing in against the radiator and allowing the left footpeg to break off and the shift lever to be bent backwards, costing me over $300 in repairs, including labor.
The second was the skid plate. I impacted a rock while going down hill. The weak mounting hardware allowed the plate to shift backwards creating a large hole in the left-side crank case cover and causing oil to leak. This left me stranded in the woods. Luckily, I was not alone and with help, I was towed by another rider to a dirt road where I could be picked up by another rider with a trailer.
Please consider if you are thinking of purchasing. I have let the company know in hopes that they improve their products.
