Yeah, so I am trading in my vstar 950 towards my new Super Tenere. ::015::

I hate that I have to wait for it to get here, but such is life. Of course the first thing I have done since returning home is to look at what I can do to make it mine. So this leads me to a few questions? How many of you use highway pegs? If so what engine guard and pegs are you using? I think I want to add on some auxiliary lighting. I know I want led, what suggestions do you have? Lastly, I want to make sure I am seen especially from the rear. What have you done to enhance the lighting when braking? I have already decided to get a "flasher" module.

Congratulations! I know the feeling, I was in your shoes last year this time. I waited from March 15th until I took delivery on May 24th. Many thousands of miles later I can tell you it was worth the wait.

I too immediately added flashing Hyper-Lites to the brake lights, and over time, 3 different sets of auxiliary lighting - Denali DM Micros on the Altrider crash bars (they're on all the time), Rigid Industry Dualies for flooding the sides of the road, and Denali D1's for a pencil beam driving light. The Dualies and D1's are on their own switches. There's probably cheaper lights available, but these work great, look great, and the installations were simple and fool proof.

I didn't add highway pegs. It might be nice to straighten out my knees once in a while, but I've just never had them on any bike and so I don't know what I'm missing. Maybe in my old age I'll try them, but I'm still only 64!!! ::025::

Good luck with the wait, I know how agonizing it can be. Hopefully it won't be too long.

You don't have to tell some of us about the agony of waiting for these bikes, I waited about 9 months and some waited longer.
It was worth every minute of the wait.

I don't see the need for highway pegs when you can just stand up and ride for a while if you need to stretch.

Any chance you could post a pic of your bike and the switches? really curious about the setup.

So true eemsreno! Many of the folks here waited nearly (or more) than a year for their Tenere. And they had never seen or touched one....., or knew anybody who had.

Still, I know what you mean. :)

Congrats, early.

lastparrot, sadly my bike is 6 hours away, tucked away in my motorcycle garage at my fishing cabin. I retired a couple months ago and immediately started to move out of my home of 20-some years here in the SF Bay Area. In another week I'll be living on the Trinity River, in the Trinity Alps of Northern California. The bike went up last week, the rest of my crap goes up next week. When I get there I'd be happy to take photos.

In the meantime, I'll describe it. First, I added a dash panel out of a sheet of carbon fiber below and in front of the main dash. On it, to the left, is a rocker switch for the micro lights mounted on the crash bars. Those lights are always on. The other two lights are on waterproof toggle switches mounted side by side on another piece of carbon fiber. That piece of carbon fiber has a hole drilled forward of the switches that mounts to the left mirror post. It's very easy to reach with a thumb to turn on or off without having to move the hand too far, or fumble around in the dark looking for them. My bike color is the matte grey/black, and the carbon fiber looks like it belongs there, not that it wouldn't on all the available colors.

Like I said, I'd be happy to post some photos of the switches and lights installations when I get to be reunited with my beloved.

congrats, lastparrot, I hope there's a Jimmy Buffett reference in there...

1. highway pegs?
No suggestion there from me as I haven't settled on an engine guard yet...

2. auxiliary lighting?

I like the Admore Setup because it is adding more light to your backside rather than just blinking what you've got...

Just my thoughts, enjoy the ride.....

Welcome aboard Parrot.

You will find that with a 5 year old model, most of the basic accessory questions have been asked and answered many times. The search function here works really well and we wish you many hours of happy searching, dreaming, and farkling.

Regarding LED's, I put the Cyclops long range set on mine with a Skene dimmer. Went with a 10 degree left and 20 degree right. The lights are incredibly bright and the Skene dimmer is programmable in 10% increments. No messing with extra switches, it all works with your hi/low beam on the bike. To top it all off, the lights have a lifetime guarantee.
Regarding hiway pegs, I haven't got any yet, but I'm looking. It would be nice to straighten out the knees from time to time. I have the Rumbux crash bars and bash plate, so anything that will attach to 1" bars will work. I thought it would be nifty to adapt a set of stock footpegs to work.
