To all of you wanting to know the difference between the older and newer cct here it is. The older unit is on the left in the first pic.
Starting from the body ... clips ... big spring ...they are exact same. The worms have the same outer body but the hole at the end is smaller on the newer unit. Smaller springs and end pin are smaller on the newer unit. Now the ram, piston or whatever you want to call it (2nd pic ) has the same outer diameter and inner diameter , but the nipple is longer than the old one, however, they remain the same length.
Here are my observations. my bike has 19000 miles and at 14000 she started rattling at startup, which has progressively got worse. I ride this bike real hard so I am sure with the hard acceleration and snapping of the throttle it was fading fast. Upon removal the first thing I noticed was that I could compress it with relative ease considering that it is a cct. The new one was a bitch to compress and I ended up snapping a little ear that keeps a spring clip in place. Trying to compress the unit with two hands and a foot was not going to work, so I pulled out my vernier and measured the bodies and found absolutely no difference , this led me to rebuilding the original body with the '14 internals. The installation was easy, no tank removal. once buttoned up, I gave the tensioner a sharp smack but heard nothing pop or snap into place. This left me unsure as to "is it out or not". I found apiece of broken mirror and with a flashlight managed to look up and found that she popped nicely. On startup she was absolutely quite. I let it warm up then whacked the throttle a few times and all is nice and quite.
