Disclaimer: Check back soon...Jesse is now providing a new rear rack, so my earlier review is obsolete. That said, I am thrilled with my Jesse Safaris. The wide ones, yes, I’m a packrat on trips. And I love the Jesse rear compartment.

Summary: Jesse has said that they are sending me (and all other early adopters) the updated version of their rear rack at no charge. But it's been a couple of months and I'm still waiting. Hmmm.

Jesse Rear Compartment. A winner through and through. This thing is great. Six liters of storage in place of a passenger seems like a fair trade. We’re loners, right? It fits perfectly with the previously dissed Jesse rear rack. The AltRider rack sits about a quarter inch lower, but since I’m not carrying that genuine copy of the Declaration of Independence I found at a garage sale last week back there, it doesn’t have to be perfectly flat. Anyway, it can carry some tools, a small airpump and an emergency bottle of…water, yeah, that’s the ticket, water. The top doesn’t pop right off (held down by four hex-head screws) which Harvey doesn’t like but I do because it thwarts the low-lifes. And it’s not like I’m in there for tools all the time (well, except when I’m riding with my Ducati buddies). Nine stars stars out of five, will go to ten when Jesse comes up with a solution to Harvey's quick-release concern without jeopardizing my crime fighting.

Cheers!

Thanks Twisties. I'd seen your excellent writeup and fix attempts, but was hoping your input was incorporated into the "QRDP" version of the rack. And when they said they had a fix in the works, I held on (but also picked up an Altrider rack just in case...figured there'd be at least one person here that would buy it off me if Jesse came through).

Oh well, live and learn.
