i installed the $1500 jesse safari 9" bags today. all of the hardware was present, but i only found 1, yes 1, key. the last jesse bags i installed about 10 years ago came with 2 or 4 keys, but definitely more than one. no worries. i just need to go get a few more made.

there was one minor issue with the instructions, but over all, the instructions were spot on. the mounts went on quickly and nothing needed tweaking, adjusting or grinding of any kind. the bag install went smoothly.

the view from the front shows the bags are pretty snug to the lines of the bike...

the bags look a lot wider from the rear, though. i reckon i'm just used to seeing the bike without the bags.

and here's my nit with the bags - they sit HIGH! i'd much prefer them flush with the rear seat or a little lower...

one thing i noticed is that the bags are not heavy at all. when i moved the boxes from the driveway into the garage i was surprised how light they were. and i know i'm not any stronger than i was 10 years ago. quite the contrary. lighter than expected bags is a good thing.

the bags attach to the mounting brackets using a grooved block on the bottom and a single cam lock on the top. easy on off, for sure. i would like to have two cam locks on the top, though. a little redundancy would be nice. if the top cam lock fails, it's bye-bye-baggy. i have no reason to believe the bags will fail, but perhaps others have some experience here. eventually, these bags are going to take a beating.

$1500 is a lot of money. are the bags worth that price tag? time will tell.

That looks really good! Did you consider the Odyssey bags? Looks like they set closer to the level of the seat. I've wondered what's the difference between the two. Looks like the one you have has a taller lid?

i considered the odyssey bags, but ruled them out based on width alone. perhaps i was wrong to do so.

Looks good though - how wide did they end up?

Interesting they are on the same rack as the Odysseys - on the BMW versions at least that's one of the differences - different rack for the Safari.

I like the Jesse bags, but dang those suckers do sit high. I went with the Micatechs and like them too except the right one flares out a bit due to the SWmotech mounts (micatech shoulda known though I think). I saved about $500 I guess, but I got more than one key too ::025::. As high as those sit, you had better have a good leg lift technique or mounting technique (well I guess pun intended--saw Alan Leduc mounting a KLR in Alaska once and thought he was a southern good ol boy ::025::).

You might be glad that they are mounted higher, I've seen you drag the Jesse bags on your GS in the corners !!

35" from edge to edge.
Not bad - my Odysseys ended up at 36" - still with the grab rails on but only enough room for a child's hand ::010:: Will need to be spaced out to 37" to be usable.

congrats, I like them and hope that they give you good wear. I went with the Micas and have been really happy with them. I have used them only lightly so far , but should be able to field test them in a few weeks when I get my seat back.

Nankoweap,

love the bags. But I am especially interested in the first pic. Am I seeing things, or did you add a special kit to attach a mower deck to the S10?! :D

Thats one way to make mowing fun!
