It's hard to believe it's January. We've seen worse in San Diego and south of Tucson this time of year. Today we rode to Port Orford in bright sun and 60 F. It was a lunch of fish and chips, the local red snapper. Then up the Elk River, until 7 miles in we encountered an icy road. The river lay smooth, a reflection of alder overlay the graveled bottom, in the clear green tinted flow, which meandered through green pastures. We turned back. There will be another day.

We rode for the Port Orford Heads, a rocky headland set on a spit. These images tell the tale, a tale of profound human spirit and courage.

After that we pulled into the Honey Bear Campground and it was like...

Really, I just don't know what to say. It could happen to anyone.

Wow, that looks great. Here in the valley I have not been able to ride for the last week due to freezing fog, yesterday the temperature did not get above freezing all day. I guess I should have come over to the coast.
Sounds like Oregon is treating you well.

It's been an amazing January out here. We had 43" rain in 9 or 10 weeks from mid-October. Then, just before New Year's Day it was like a switch flipped. Been sunny. First sunny and cool, then warming. Now we've had a week or so of this 50's- 60 F, and sun. It's like a little mini-drought. Supposed to get a little rain tomorrow, but only like 1/4-1/2". But, even with the dry January, I think we are still on the wet side of the water year. It was a remarkably cool and wet early winter.
