Hello,

I would like to raise my bike in order to enhance ground clearance.
I have a lot of hesitation between the differents kit : 10, 20 or 25 mm ?
The 10 mm : https://shop.lustracing.com/products/lr-jku-yam-xtz1200-10-on-10u
The 20mm : https://shop.lustracing.com/products/lr-jku-yam-xtz1200-10-on-20u
The 25mm : https://www.off-the-road.de/en/news/141211/high-up-kit-yamaha-xt-1200z-super-tenere?number=ULH-XT12-HL-ABE-ZV&c=22

I'm afraid the 10mm kit won't be enough to increase ground clearance considerably. But it's also the one that causes almost no change in sensations.
What have you chosen and what do you recommend?

I‘ve used the 20mm kit on my 2021 and current 2023 S10 ES. It eliminated some rear sag, stiffened things up a bit, and quickened up the steering. All good things to me. I purchased my jack up links from Lust Racing.

Go with a Penske and raise the rear ride height with it. Also gives you a rebuildable shock.

Thanks for your feedback !
Have you noticed any premature bearing wear due to the bearing support being different from the original?

Thanks, I already ordered a Tractive Shock but I also would like to increase ground clearance a little bit more.

I haven’t noticed or felt any early wear on the bearings…..but, I am insensitive:cool:

With the Penske you can adjust ride height, you can thread the lower clevis out till 12mm of threads are showing. Actually makes the bike tough to get on.

Lust Racing, 25mm in my current and previous ST. Made huge difference in clearance. I ride super hard, sorta endura style, never been an issue (in case you are wondering).
Have you done other suspension modifications? I'm looking for ideas on how to tweak the suspension without going full-on with new shocks/springs.

Just an fyi and observation. I was curious where the center of gravity was on my bike, so measured distance between front and rear wheel axle. It is located about a third of the way forward from the rear of the tank. Which means most everything put on the bike goes onto the rear suspension. That is a static state of course.

The stock shocks are actually very good. The only other thing I’ve done was to have upgraded valves placed within the front shocks, at the same time as having a blown seal replaced (continue reading). I ride with the setting of “two up (two helmets)” and vary between the hard and standard setting +3 as I ride.

I keep things fast and smooth, avoiding instances of needing to jolt the rear suspension into the air like when clearing a large log ( I build a ramp). Every now and then I do get things wrong and land with the front on an inclined plane, then yes, I do then blow a seal. I would say I ride the bike well past it’s designed intent, as well as on mx tracks without issue.

Don’t worry about measuring this and that, the angle of repose of the shaft or any of that. Between my two STs I’ve used the same set up well over 200k km,s, never with issue. It’s a Yamaha, it’s built for riding...
