OK, so I don't have a SuperTen, nor am I bringing one home in the near future... ;)

BUT, I am starting my research on these bikes to determine if one *should* come home.

You see, I currently enjoy a KTM 690 Enduro R and an FJR 1300 in the garage (so, yeah, I'm a bit biased to the S10 already, though the Triumph Explorer XC has my eye, too), so I'm blessed bike wise. Lately I have been considering a new mount, however, to replace the FJR (which is a low mileage '09 model). My wife and I enjoy 2-up rides and I enjoy long distance stuff, as well as trail riding, so...

A TEN might give me more of a dual purpose ride - go long and explore those gravel roads I see, while still pulling duty on two-up group rides with friends.

In a nutshell, I'm trying to learn if the S10 is the right second bike for my garage. I'm not expecting this bike to follow in the tracks of my 690 R, but hitting gravel roads and forest service roads would be nice.

Obviously I have real dirt work covered with the 690... ::008::

Welcome on, sportsguy. Best advice I can give you is don't go test drive a Tenere without your check book, Visa, and your friendly banker. Good luck. ::004:: to the Forum. R. ::022::

Welcome from Texas! Never used my Tenere for two up, ( I have a Wing for that duty) although I'm sure it'd do fine. My Ten has eaten up lots of dirt and gravel roads though and loves it. Is also fun in the twisty's , and if its a crappy road its no problem . It just soaks the bumps right up.

Welcome, SG. Wifey & I ride 2-up on the s10 - have done upwards of 200mi at a shot with a mix of hwy, twisties, gravel/dirt/washouts with one or two brief stops for gas & drinks. Pillion wants a little better seat for the rough terrain but hwy is fine.

2-up, we're pushing the official weight limit before loading the top box. Hwy speeds/passing is no problem - s10 won't have the fjr's kick but is peppy enough. I've dialed the rear shock load to a turn below max (not a prerequisite for comfort/safety 2-up, but I'm trying to get a happy medium on factory headlight beam height solo & 2up and the beams are in the trees on 2up with default/soft rear). Dialed up in the back, the bike is TALL - I'm 5'11" and on toes at a stop w/out the pillion (factory seat @ hi setting). If you love tall bikes as I do, you'll be fine with it. Rem is 100% right - I went to pick up a used tiger & somehow drove home a new s10 for twice the price. Luckily every time I ride, the bike convinces me I did the right thing. Best of luck whatever you choose.

Welcome SG!

Take a test ride two up... A nice twisty road... Push it a little bit... Then try the service gravel roads two up... Look at the speedo... You'll be suprized.
Then when you come home, try to do it with FJR all over again. :D
I think you got the point.

;)

::004:: to the forum from Oklahoma! Two up is not problem... It handles most everything very well and is quite comfortable for the long hauls. I have done around 1k per day numerous times on it. I too was looking for a Triumph Explorer 1200 when I rode the Tenere. I actually drove to Dallas from Oklahoma City and rode the Explorer. Then I rode the Tenere and bought it on the spot...
