Is there a list of which bolts to check for tightness?

One of the fender mounting bolts has fallen off my bike. I found it while doing the first service. I'm not going to have a fit - it's normal that things need to be tightened on a new bike. But I am wondering if anyone has made a checklist of fasteners that we should check for tightness on a new Super10? I remember someone on the V-Strom forum made a list like that and I found it invaluable.

Both other new bikes I have owned (Honda NT700V, Suzuki DL1000 V-Strom) developed coolant leaks and had to have some hose clamps tightened after a couple months. Once they were tightened they did not leak again. Just normal compression of new hoses under hose clamps, I think. Anyone seen any coolant leaks yet?

Sorry I've no list to offer but my front right brake caliper fell off due to loose bolts. Fortunately no harm done. Also bar end bolt was loose. I've gone from one end to the other with lock tite and a wrench. Good luck and safe riding.

The fender bolts are instaled by the setup guys at the shop, there fault, the brake caliper bolts are Yamaha factory fault. Both should have been caught before they left the dealership but techs are human and not perfect, they usually have some one looking over there shoulder telling them to hurry up.Best thing to do is cover your own ass and check the machine as often as possible. So far I haven`t found anything loose or mounted wrong.

Anything that the dealership setup guy touched. Ie:handlebars and everything on them, front wheel and everything attached in tha area.

I found that all my factory items were tight not the case on anything that was done during setup.

FWIW front brake calipers were installed by dealer setup guy so if you have issues there then there is the blame not the factory. I seen my S10 in the crate and the front wheel was not on it and neither were the bars.

Yes - I just installed SW-Motech pegs and on the left had to move the gearchange lever in order to get the pivot pin out of the peg. The bolt that the gearchange pivots on was VERY tight - so tight I was worried that I was stripping threads. It was doing the squealing thing and very stiff to turn. Lubed it, helped a bit. Pleased to see no bits of metal come out of the hole when eventually got it off...

Complete Torque Specs for the bike start on page 2-16 of the internationally copyrighted, banned on this forum, bootleg, euro version of the Factory Service Manual. US torque specs should be, but not necessarily are, the same.

That's what I've been told, anyway, but cannot reveal my sources under penalty of severe legal action. ;)

I also had my left bar-end bolt and weight fall off while riding last weekend. The guy who set it up gave me some mumbled speech about torque specs and shop manuals, anyway, the parts are on order.
and yes, it would be really helpful to know what the shop's assembly check list is. Jeez- flashbacks to 1980, riding my old shovelhead Harleys......

Not as exciting, but I lost one of the screw head bolts on the boot shield on the exhaust by the brake pedal. Replaced with better socket wrench bolt. Tried to replace the remaining screw head bolt, but almost stripped it trying to get it off. Guess it won't be going anywhere.

Never seen one, nope not me either. No help at all.

On all my second hand stuff I generally, clean and check everything at least in the first week of ownership. Not by the manual, but by a sensible guesswork.

For example, The engine casing bolt is movable with my fingers, may be a bit loose, Nip it up to about the same as others. If others are all finger tight, panic, check oil and buy service manual.

While I could cause an "oil thread" dicussion, those bolts that look like thread corrosion could be an issiue, add a film of grease OR locktite (mild blue).
May cause grief amongst mechanical geeks but nothing has fallen off or seized up yet. (after I have got to it).

Cleaning bikes also helps. It's amazing what you pick up as you go around cleaning. It's like dental hygiene really. Brush and floss after every meal if possible. ::024::

If the fastener has "yellow paint" on it then it was installed at the factory. Japan has done this for many years. When I was there in '70-'72 every year we had to have a safety inspection. Normally the autorized Safety Repair Station would undercoat the vehicle and make a yellow mark on most of the nuts and bolt heads.

Just checked the Super10 and there is no yellow mark on the nuts and bolt heads that were listed as having a problem.

And to who had the rotor fall off  ???

There were little grease pencil marks on just about everything on the bike when I got it. I figure someone in final inspection was double checking themselves. Unfortunately, they missed one upper cowl screw....probably because it was MISSING!!! ???

Oh well, I'll have to order one...maybe a couple just for stock.

I'm thinking a COMPREHENSIVE bolt check is in order.
