We have learned that many if not all motorcycle manufacturers keep production numbers close to their respective chests. However, the numbers sold and registered is public knowledge and we can learn some interesting statistics from that. I have an article in a Powersports trade publication that lists registration numbers for leading vehicles by various clategories selected by the publisher for the 12 month period from June 2009 thru May 2010. Of interest to readers of this forum would be the Dual Purpose classification. I'll tell you that number 1 is the KLR 650. Now, there are 3 BMW's listed in the top 10, the GS1200, GSA1200 and F800 GS. It is interesting that this category includes 3 or possibly 4 bikes that are not street legal, but they are still listed as dual purpose and that is puzzling to me, as there is a separate category for dirt bikes. In any case, getting back to the 3 BMW's in the top ten, let's see who can guess the numbers of each model registered.
R1200GS
R1200 GS Adventure
F800GS
As a side note, in the category of on hghway motorcycles, there is one brand that has 6 in the top ten. Can you guess who?
