I would like to know what the rest of the world is paying for Plate insurance. The rates for 2013 have went up as high as 300 percent. My 1200 Tenere will cost me $800 more a year for a total of $2400, and my wifes KLR 650 a 2001 model went up $600. So just for a month riding it will cost me about $200. If you own a crouch rocket over 1200 and its new, it would cost you $5400. Or only $450 a month.
A 1980 crouch rocket will only cost you $2300 a month. ::009::

The motorcycle world here is to say the least...mad. If things dont change you could see a lot of motorcyles on the market. It can get worse, they could prevent us from buying 3 months at a time, and make it a minimum of 6 months or a year.

I would think this will cut out motorcyles a lot harder than they think . I am the odd guy that lives on his bike during the summer. But a lot just take them out for a little ride and to enjoy a nice summer day. Perhaps the Majority.

I will get more details as to why, we have a limited time to fight it. More to follow.

Is this an average price or way out of the normal?

Update.

This gives you Third party $200000
Damage to Vehicle $700
Income Benifits 90 percent of $82000
Death Benefits
funeral Expense $9376

I would get a 20 percent discount because of my current Driving record.

I would think there is more going on to this story than you've revealed. It makes no sense. Is there some Canadian legislature measure thats got the people up in arms? The insurance lobby needs the automotive (motorcycle) industry, they are complimentary in nature. Rate hikes like this would be across all vehicles in some form or another...

Or your identity has been comprimised in some way...

WOW!!!! That's insane, how/why did the government passes a bill that caused the increase? Don't you Canucks have a AMA type lobbyist group fighting for your Moto rights??

I pay $378 a year for full over the top coverage for my 2013 Ténéré.

I have just paid for the renewal on my insurance here in the UK. It cost me £230, including breakdown and recovery across Europe, insurance for all my declared extras (exhaust, luggage etc) and DNA+ security marking. I was fairly happy with that.

Having seen that table of charges, it looks a lot more prescribed where you are, whereas over here the prices vary considerably between companies and each year. I just turned 40 and I have 7 years claim free, but not sure if those things are taken into account your side of the water?

Regards,

Matt

How much do your Licence plate cost you in Saskatchewan?
I'm in Québec, and my licence plate cost me around 500$/yr
And my insurance, around 419$/yr
For a 2012...

That is crazy, what is covered for that? I pay around $40.00 for the plate every year and about $250.00 a year for insurance that covers $2 mil.. liability only, no theft, fire or comprehensive. The only reason I am paying that much is because they classify the bike as a 1200 cc sport bike. I pay $120.00 a year for my DR650 for the same coverage. BC I understand can also be very expensive depending on where you live.

Let me ask the obvious question: Does the government in Canada have a monopoly on motorcycle insurance? If not, are *all* private insurers tripling their rates on the Tenere?

What I typically find is that insurance is a game. There often is very little correlation between insurance rates among different companies because they just collect actuarial data and develop a formula to price their risks.

Any given bike might trip over a flaw in the formula, particularly adventure bikes like ours which are often stuffed into entirely different classifications.
