$12999 when the msrp is $10500? Perhaps you are thinking of an FJR?
I don't care to post a link because I just may pull the trigger so I'm not going to broadcast it so someone else can buy it before I do. Y'all can use Google I'm sure...
Ah, crap. Too many threads running together as I skim through. I thought you were looking at an s10 for that price.

Haha, yeah if that deal was out there I'd have to pick up a second S10 ::020::

This is exactly what I plan on doing. I can get a "new" leftover '15 for $7500 right now. The only thing stopping me is that it's likely I'm going to need achilles surgery (heal spurs causing a rupture) which won't happen due to other commitments until March '17 at the earliest. It's probably 12 weeks of non-weight bearing transitioning into some weight bearing with a boot, etc. Minimal recovery time is 6 months and really it's a year before you are 100%. I had this happen to my right achilles a few years ago so I know the drill. As such, in all likelihood, no riding for me next year so I'm not sure it makes sense to buy something else right now :'(
Ouch. Good luck Joe. I had it done Sept. 2015. Spent this time last year dreaming of a new S10. Good news was it healed great and I'm pain free. I suffered for 6 years of it steadily getting worse before I'd had enough. Good luck again!

... and finally settled on a FJ09. Fantastic second bike to the tenere. Great around town, excellent light sport tourer that eats miles better than the tenere (IMO)...

Interesting. i.e. how many miles in a day on your FJ-09, really? During a trip this year a group of us on Super Tenere's ran into a guy on the FJ-09 going up the califiornia highway 1 coast. We probably averaged 325-375 miles a day with a few stops I'd say. During some of the longer stretches where it's common to do 75-80mph we could see his FJ-09 getting blown around pretty good. Not plated like the Super Tenere. As we got into town he commented the opposite, wishing he was on one of the larger 1200cc ADVs for his longer day trips. What aspects of the FJ-09 do you prefer for the longer "eats miles" trips?

Weight. The FJ is a rocket in the tight stuff. It might not pound highways as well as the ST, but I avoid those like the plague. The FJ is a much much funner road bike. This was confirmed by my Cali trip this november. Even on my blast out to the coast, the bike surprised me. Calgary to Vancouer via LIolooet, is about 1200km of some twisty roads. There was times that I would run a tank dry, going like a bat out of hell, filled up, and did it for another 300km without issue.

I'd be hard pressed to think anybody could convince me that sweeeeet triple wouldn't be more fun on tarmac.
Every once in a while a motorcycle manufacturer designs an engine that "hits the spot", almost regardless of the chassis intent.

For me, the Suzuki V twin 650 motor is one of those.
And now, I suspect the Yamaha triple is another.

Probably says something about me and what tickles my fancy.
Obviously the whole package still determines which weapon in the arsenal I would choose for the trip.
Greg has always showed me that. Ain't the first time he headed to the coast and left the Beast at home. I paid attention. :)

Hi Bruce,
where you been all this time man?
Great to hear from you.
I think you would love the triple. Just finished up a tour of California in november with it. Pure bliss.

I sold the EXC 450 and bought something much better for the woods. Two stroke 300 ::014::

Thanks for the links Greg!

I'll soak it all up from my lounge chair this weekend. ::012::

Without even reading though, that's TWO bikes worthy of a love affair.
I don't think anybody has ever not loved that magic little Orange smoker, that I know of.

it's been a huge learning curve, but I've had a blast on it. I've put on close to 150hrs since I bought it last january.

Of course I do.
I'm simply storing it for a Canadian buddy of mine who is still being wishy washy about taking it home.
Not sure I've ever met anyone who bonded with it like he did. (And that includes me!)
It was like cowboy who met his horse.

I'll do so for as long as it takes. ::013::

It'll need a battery and the carbs cleaned, of course.

Man...I loved that bike :p :p :p :p :p :p
They made the import process a bit of a pain the ass. Previously you could import the bike on your own. Now you need to involve a broker.
Who knows, it still might be in my future. I'll be that much harder, as I'm currently jobless :'(

The battery and carbs I could handle doing myself ::015::

Words like jobless, broker, process...........

They hardly phase me. Lol
They're just "criteria" for the art of a deal.

Having said that, it certainly does mean it would be a great story. (the one you tell explaining how you have 2 Texas license plates hanging on the wall of your shop)

Just want ya to know it's GREAT talking with ya again!
My "hibernation" was a natural break. But that winter looks over.

Great to talk to you as well man.
Trust me, I keep racking my brain on how I could swing the deal. The logistics is what really kills me. The rest of it are mere details.

Well I'll be damned if I didn't go for a ride today and remind myself how great this thing is. Smooth running, plenty of wind protection, excellent handling, and plenty of POWER when I wanted it.
