Hi - Between the garage at my house and the house ive managed to lose a key.

Its likely to turn up at some point as ive not left the house with it.

I've ordered a new blank chipped key and i have the red master key.

Anyone got the precise sequence of events written down to code the key once its been cut please.

I tried searching all sorts of combinations but all said too many results.

There are some videos on YouTube but not for XT1200 - i watched one for an R1 and i assume they are same if someone could confirm - thanks !

So i did find the key but not before i ordered 2 new keys.

I can see the procedure but is there a limit to how many keys you can have - can i program the new 2 and have 4 keys.

I can then leave one at work keep 1 safe with the red key one in use and a spare for when im away on the longer trips ?

You can only have two keys programmed off the red master at any one time, if you do a third key the first one programmed is no longer recognised and becomes a blank again. Also, keep the red master in a safe place, do not use it as an every day key. I have no idea how much it would cost if the red key was lost, but having a car re-programmed and new keys cost a few hundred £s.

Do not use the red key a normal key.

If red key is lost you can't reprogram any new keys. If keys are lost and you don't have the red key, you can't get another one. You will be forced to order new ignition switch, seat lock, gas tank cap, and ECU. Probably near $1000 if the red key is lost.

DO NOT USE RED KEY AS NORMAL KEY. Keep in a safe place.

If you buy a Yamaha used, make sure you get the red key if your bike has the immobilizer system. (Canada/EURO etc)
