Hi everyone,

I will be buying an S10 in the near future. I've been riding around 45 years, owned over 50 bikes and ridden many, many miles. My last two bikes were an 07 BMW adv and an 09 BMW adv. What lead me to the Tenere was, I was at a Beemer rally this weekend and broke down, two weeks ago I broke down..............I'm so done with the whole BMW thing. I think the Tenere is the best thing out there for me. I look forward to owning one. I also look forward to the knowledge that this site seems to have and also contributing when I can.

I'm glad to meet ya'll.

All mechanical contrivances will strand you, at one time or another.
Here's hoping that you have better luck with the Tenere.

Me? No, I'm not a Beemer guy.... unless you got a nice old airhead.

::004:: Nitzo this is the best site for all things Super Tenere. I've found the answer to any question i've had. That search box is great it will pull up a bunch of threads to look over. Not many stories of folks breaking down i hope the Tenere proves to be reliable for you too. If you enjoy get togethers check out the Colorado 2013 thread looks like a great time if you can make it.

When you get your Tenny let us know what you think. I was almost a BMW owner and then rode a Tenere and thought, "why pay more?"

Would like to hear your impressions...

Welcome Nitzo, from Tennessee! I think the Tenere will make a reliable choice for your biking needs. Great forum here full of knowledge. I would also like to hear your impressions coming off the BMW, when you get settled.

Welcome Nitzo, you will live this site, and your new Tenere. I am a new Tenere owner (about 400 miles now), and a former 04 GS owner. The bike is awesome, and the forum is unbelievably helpful. No stone unturned here. Have fun test riding!

Welcome to the forum and as a former BMW owner of two air heads, two K-bikes, and one oil head I understand where you are at now. The lack of the BMW dealer network was the biggest reason I left the fold. I am a newbie here and a newbie to the Tenere with a Mattie Grey 2013 with 600 miles now. If and when you pickup a Tenere you will find it has a couple of issues also including the spokes coming loose so a heads up on that. I have faithfully checked mine on the 13 and hopefully (but maybe not) Yamaha has increased torque or whatever on this year. I will say mine are nice and tight so far. I completed the 600 mi service in my garage and no surprise durning that. Oh and the best part of all that unlike the BMW,s I have had no valves to check at 600 mi, no torquing of the heads, no degree wheel to degree the heads, etc. As a friend of mine says " anything German has too many parts". ::021::

I had to work out why pay less as the BMW was cheaper and I could have swapped all my luggage, suspension, sat-nav mounts, tank bag straight over saving me even more......

.. Then I remembered how every time it needed a service it needed repairs, every time I went away it came back with problems, never stranded me, but it felt like it would do sooner rather than later, and I suspected a brand new one would only get me a year or two at best before becoming problematic. Never had a real problem with the many Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki's I have owned, even much older higher mileage bikes.

If I had the money and desire to buy a new bike every two years / 10k then I would consider the GS, it was a fantastic bike to ride and IMO better than the Yamaha in a number of ways, but like so many others I just could not justify the running costs and risk my few and far between biking trips being ruined by a breakdown.

Welcome from a recovering GS owner!!
I was in the same boat as you, within a few minutes of your first ride you'll know you made the right choise. And when you hit the dirt you'll wonder why it took you so long to get one! Cheers!! ::003::
