Hey fellas, a few times this winter I have started my bike just to let it run for a while and went inside. Every time after 20 or 30 miniutes I've come out to shut the bike off only to find it has stalled. It was idling fine when I left and for several minutes later but stalled at some point after that while I was inside. This has happened after the bike was warmed up as I've heard the fan kick on. Now remember I didn't ride the bike just started it and let idle for a while. Haven't rode it since the 5th of November. Any ideas of what I'm experiencing? Thanks

I don't know where you live....but in my neighborhood; If I leave my bike outside idling and go indoors for a period of time......It might not be there when I go back outside! ::013::

I've never let a bike idle that long come to think of it.

Is it possible a neighbor is shutting it off?

Sometimes during the winter, I miss the sound of the bike..
And then I also start it, but I never only let it idle, I also give it some rpm. But most of the time it idle (yes, I know the bike is better of, by not starting it).
That have not yet been a problem. This is though the first winter I have the bike, and I have only done this twice, but no problem so far.

Is your bike gen1 og gen2? (before 2014 or after)

As far as I know that's what it's supposed to do. The engine should turn off automatically if left idle for 20 minutes.

I've heard of that with other Yamaha models, but have yet to idle for 20 mins so cannot verify.

The owners manual confirms that the bike has an auto-stop system. If left idling for 20 minutes, it will shut itself off.
The owners manual also states that it is bad for the exhaust system to idle for more than a few minutes (too much heat).

Seems like a good thing. Guess mine has never idled for twenty minutes but it’s good to be aware it has that feature so thanks for pointing it out.

Which is why doing that is illegal; at least in Texas. I'm also too much of a cheapskate to waste that much gas.

Glad to know that its programmed into the bike. answers a lot of questions. it's a 2013 model and no, I don't have a problem with theft or neighbors. just running the bike and yes it did charge the battery. I do have it on a charger now and not planning on starting it any more this winter. thanks for all the responses.

if the bike sits for awhile , I rock it back and forth on the center stand to make sure the gas is mixed , should any alcohol and water separate out the fuel. don't really know if that's an issue just makes me feel better . and they will shut off on prolonged idle.
