They may have been Euro models with panels changed, seats changed, but that does not seem like it would make sense if they are promoting them as Euro models... It also read in MPH. There was 6 of them here in yesterday. I was so excited, I did not spend much time talking with the reps.

They are not promoting them as Euro models. It is just that those are the only ones available to them now, so rather than not offering displays and/or demo rides at all, the next best choice was to change seat and panels so thay look like the USA models and go with it for now. You can switch from MPH to KPH and also from celcius to farehnheit on those by using the two buttons on the dash.

That makes sense, I was just so excited I did not pay that much attention. I was quizzing the rep as I sat ready to take off, I held up the line already wanting to know more. I wanted to use the modes I could on the fly. It was just nice to ride it as I sit here waiting. Now I think I can maker it a few more months.

And how did you determine they have a "standard key system"? I don't think the keys for immobilizer bikes look much different from non-coded keys.

Yes, it is different from the kipass system. We weren't sure it was a coded key when we had a replacement made for the display unit we had in Jan, because the original key was bent and almost broken. The replacement key would turn the starter but the bike wouldn't start. After that we used the replacement key only to demonstrate how to lock, unlock and remove the side bags and remove the seat for adjustment.

As discussed in this thread, a simple RFID-keyed immobilizer system is nothing like the KIPASS. Immobilizer-coded keys look like regular keys and work like regular keys. I'd bet the bike you rode was electronically Euro-spec and had the immobilizer.

The bottom line is that we don't know whether US-spec bikes are getting the immobilizer system or not. Based on the fact that immobilizer systems are generally becoming more common, that the Euro bikes have them, that the Canadian website shows it as a feature (and this website was built much later than thrown-together-at-the-last-minute Sept 1 US website when better technical data was available), my bet is that the US-spec bikes will have the system. But the absence of the immobilizer from the US feature list is a vote in the other direction.

We'll see in a couple months.

I hope US bikes don't have system. A few of my Canadian friends have have 2006 + FJRs and they all have the red key system.

No US dealer even has tech pages on it in shop manual. One had his bike fail in Georgia, had to fedex a the red key down with Cdn shop manual for a restart.

It is another complication and cost

The easy way to tell if the bike has the immobilizer is the red light on the dash. The light will flash for the first 24 hours after you turn the key off and shuts off after that but the system stays on.
Don't know whether you're talking about the S10 system in particular or not, but I don't think this is universally true for all immobilizer systems. I have two BMWs with immobilizer systems and neither flashes.
