Hi,i recently found my rough running issue, although its not rain related. The end of fuel pump hose that connects to the fuel rail has three small locating tabs one of which had snapped of and was wedged in my fuel rail inlet pipe, check your connector to make sureIMG_1093.jpeg youve got three tabs

Thanks cyclemike and thanks 5fl.
I'll definitely check the fuel connector tonight. One of the problems for me is that my S10 is my only transport and I use it every day. It's really horrible having to ride it like this and it limits the amount of time I get to check things. I'll look at that connector after work tonight though

Low fuel pressure would also cause unburned fuel to enter the exhaust pipes causing your glowing issue. The fuel is not vaporized enough exiting the injector causing large fuel droplets that are slow to burn or will not burn. Reason I was asking whether your ecu had been flashed.

Thanks Rob. I'll try to look into that as well. Exhausted tonight so Im not going out to the garage. Got 200 miles to do tmrw so it will probably be Friday before I look at it.
Tenforeplay...thank you for your help. My ECU is standard (as far as I know).
Thanks again folks. Hopefully I'll get chance to dig into it again very soon.

+1 on checking your fuel pressure, particularly the ability of the fuel system to hold pressure after the pump shuts off. If the pressure drops instantly it would indicate an injector stuck open. An open injector is constantly dribbling fuel into the cylinder which would cause rough running, high fuel consumption and your glowing red hot exhaust pipe.

We have been using these Quantum fuel pump kits over OE pumps for 2yrs now. Never had an issue with any of them.
BUT FYI, we have had to clean and reuse the pressure regulator in some applications as the quantum regulator in some cases doesn't fit quite right.
But not much goes wrong with the regulator other then they get dirty and can stick.
I highly recommend the Quantum pump kits.

I put a quantum n mine last year. It didn’t put up enough pressure and wouldn’t run right. Took it to a dealership and they confirmed the pump was weak.

99.9% that the pump was 100% but the regulator was bad as in dirty, improperly installed or not correct one.
All fuel pressure is strictly regulated by the regulator and not by the pump motor.
The pump has no clue what pressure you want, all it know is, turn on, flow fuel. Regulation can be 10psi or 100psi all on the same motor being regulated by a ball and spring.
Most dealers and even many repair shops are just to lazy, stupid or rather just change everything..hey they are not the one paying for it.

Thanks again folks. As always, your knowledge is amazing!!
Quick update. I did 200 miles yesterday (first dry ride in ages) and the problem has HOPEFULLY cleared itself. That leads me to believe it was water somewhere?
I have another 150 miles or so today so let's see what happens. If it returns I will certainly look into the fuel pressure. Thanks for the link to parts Rob

strange, if the fuel pump had a pressure issue it would be there all the time you would think, so everytime it piises down your bike runs ruff but when dry its ok as you say has to be water getting in somewhere reallt strange

I'm pretty certain it's water. Did another 200 miles today and it's fine. I'm suspecting that maybe waymter gets into the connector to the ignition coils

I pulled my plugs at the 12k service, only one had anything in the way of watermarks, but I put them back with a good wipe of red rubber grease especially under the cap part. Bikes on 24k now but is sorned for the winter, as I’ll be using my old GS instead, but it will get a service before spring where I’ll be checking valves so will see then how things have faired the last 12k. If I was suffering similar issues to the OP I’d be filling all the assoviated connectors with red rubber grease too. I might even do so when I pull mine apart.
