First off, I work part time for a Yamaha/Honda dealer and as such, I get my bikes at a great price. At the first of each month these companies send out emails to the dealers with the latest incentives offered on various models. I bought my 2014 ES on July 17 at a very good price with no Yamaha incentives available at that time. On Aug 1, Yamaha announced a $500 "customer cash" incentive, so I could have saved $500 by waiting 2 weeks, but you never know what is coming. On Oct 1 they announced some extremely good incentives on certain models in particular and on certain size bikes in general. The 2014 Super Tenere is included. Bottom line is if you are thinking about a 2014 and your dealer can find one, you should be able to get an incredible deal. I am told that the open order period is closed, so there seems to be none in the warehouse, but dealers can get bikes from other dealers that are willing to let them go.

I have enjoyed putting about 5500 miles on my ES in the last couple months, but if I had known this was coming I certainly would have waited.

Thanks for sharing, Fred. Always nice to hear news straight from the dealerships.

I heard they are offering $1000 customer cash that some dealers are just taking off the price.

Reduced sales price equals less sales tax.

Wow, I just checked Cycle Trader and found some pretty great prices on the 14ES. I am still happy with my deal in August at 13k minus $200 Yamaha incentive.

The dealer I bought my ES from, in June, discounted it a grand off the msrp price. Maybe you can do better with winter coming down the pike.

I think at 16k mine is probably just run-in and I am fed up of swapping bikes and kissing goodbye to £5k every few years, which would probably be the upgrade cost even with a good px and cashback deal.

I may check what I could get on a 2014 just before the 24k service is due, but most likely will go for the CCT and CLutch Basket, probably £1k all in with labour to "freshen" the bike up a bit, with upgraded suspension, ECU-Flash and Arrow Headers the new bike would offer no more power or better handling / comfort and £5k seems a lot for Cruise Control.

Much as I think the 2014 is an improvement, I do not think it is enough to make it highly desirable, and apart from bikes I could not afford to keep maintained / ride all the time there is nothing else I like the look of.

A KTM 1190 looks cool to me, but service costs, reliability and depreciation if I dared to do more than 3k a year put me off, so I will settle on upgrading my 2011 V1.4 (Flash, Headers and and Suspension) into a 2011.6 with a CCT and Clutch Basket.

How about a brand new, leftover 2012 model?

They have them here locally for $9,999.95

Would you spend the extra $$$ for a 2014 model or get the 2012 at a reduced price?

Personally, I'd get the 2014 model as everyone is saying how much better the motor is without mods but then again the $5k difference can buy a lot of mods/farkles!

I'm upgrading my well used 30 mile/50Km model with :
2014 clutch basket ($70 dollars to my door, thanks a whole bunch Karson)
Manual CCT $70
ECU flash $150
And the fancy new LED's $120 (sadly front only since the rears are another $140!!)

I'm sure the 2014's are good bikes, but there's no reason to take a big hit on my 2012, just to have re-equip a 2014.
Again, just the direction I"m heading.

Where did you order the LEDs from, Greg?

Thanks,

If you do your research, you can find smoking deals out there. I got a great deal on a '14 non ES by shopping around and not being to eager to buy. I found the same bike for up to $3500 more just within a few miles. I test drove the '13 and really liked it. I test drove the '14 and loved it. Night and day difference. Not saying the '13 is bad, but why not spend a little extra and get all the improvements.

I do a group by from cheapcycleparts.com

by group buy, I mean a bunch of us get together with parts that we need, and split the shipping and duty.
you can find it easy on any 2014 model.
