Well, my 2008 FJR1300AE (57k miles) got traded in for a brand new 2012 black S10 (5 miles, 4 of them mine) today. I've been interested in getting back on a more dirt-capable machine after last two years Dam Tours took me to places I shouldn't have been on the FJR.

My bike will eventually fill the same role as my FJR did, as a mile-eater, but with the capability to eat up some more of those miles off tarmac. Jesse Luggage is already on order and I have some bits and pieces from the FJR to slap on.

I'll be soaking up more information and advice from the pages on this forum and I hope will be able to provide my own advice, experience, and knowledge in time. It'd be great to meet more of the locals as well, though I do remember Mr. Hoebster from my days messing around on a VStrom.

Can't wait to put more miles on this machine and see what it can really do.

Welcome aboard and greetings from the D.C. area. A mile-eater it is. Good timing on your part too, I hear there are some sun breaks these days.

Welcome aboard Adam. Would you be another FJRForum member as well? I still have my 08, which mostly handles commuter duties these days...

Number 45, you have strayed from the Darkside... Your name has been stricken thru on the list of the Brethren. >:D

You are forgiven though, seeing as you had the good taste to buy another Yamaha. Welcome to the forum, now go order some K60 Scouts, you'll like them for Dam Tour riding. ;)

I'll have some photos up later today, hopefully. I only took a couple. One at the dealership and another at home. I've got some rides planned for this summer so Ill be putting up some photos from those.

Mmmmm...milk AND cookies?!? This place is awesome. I'll be sure to get those photos up soon.

Loved the FJR, but for some reason it just became more and more of a chore for me. I don't know why. It was fast as all get out, but a boat at low speeds, especially with the car tire I had mounted on the rear. Probably exacerbated by the AE too. The first CT I had on it was lovely, but not that last one.

Having spent last weekend tearing apart the FJR to get it freshened up for sale, pulling probably 2 miles of wiring from the bike, and cursing at it, I'm so giddy to see the copious amounts of space on the S10. It's going to be so much easier to maintain and work with. The AE version of the FJR is "blessed" with even less space for stuff because of the electronics and mechanical bits they had to add on. It made a simple air filter change a 45 minute affair.

Other than that, great bike. Put ~52k miles on it in 2 years, working full time and doing my Masters program part time. It just soaked up the miles with nary a complaint.

Sun? What's that? I think I have done close to 25k (out of 80k) miles of riding in rain.

I have family in VA/DC area (grew up in Roanoke) and rode out there this time last year. I'll probably be taking the S10 out that way again next summer or sometime after that.

Thank you! I see them around town (one even parks in the same garage as I do for work), so I know they're out there. It'd be great to meet them sometime. Always nice to put a face with the online personality.

Yup! Same user name as over there. I mainly chill in the Long Distance or PNW sections.

My FJR was a commuter as well (hate the bus!), but Im thinking the new wheels will handle the potholes of downtown much better. I will sorely miss the AE's ability to start on a steep hill though. That was the best. feature. ever.

I thought that was you, Eric. Glad to see you around! It's good to know there is another crazy like me hanging around these parts.

Sadly, the Dam Tour is officially canceled this year, but it seems some peeps are carrying it on unofficially. I'll be sure to get the bike dirty though. I've got to get back down to the Hell Hole Reservoir in Callifornia and record a ride down the "road" I had the FJR (with car tire) on. I can't believe I survived that section only to drop it less than an hour later. Stupid mud.

I heard you had cookies.

Some quick photos, as promised.

Just before leaving the dealer. It always rains when I buy a new moto.

Got it home. Pretty happy with the new purchase, though I'd be happier if I could put some more miles on it.

I don't know why, but I just love the headlights on the S10. Something about them. Almost insect like.

Looking good Adam. Now the farkling begins. AltRider makes a great side stand plate for those less than stable parking areas.

Hey, you might want to check out the Rose City Motorcycle Club's Grand Tour. Locations in all in OR, with a few far flung ones. Similar to the DT, but usually restaurants. LINK Lots of good riding locations, if all South of you.

Yeah, I like AltRider's gear. My DL650 was their tested for parts back when I had that bike. I'll be getting the side stand foot and guards soonish.

Also, my friend has asked me to join him on the Cafe to Cafe Grand Tour. http://www.soundrider.com/cafetocafe/. It's up here in the PNW. We did it together two years ago when I got the FJR. But thanks for info on that tour in OR.

Adam, welcome to the madness! If you enjoyed the STrom and FJR then you will love this for sure. Send me your email address so I can add you to the area group list. If you want to go for a ride with us next weekend, I am leaving from my house early next Sunday morning to meet up with some others. It will be an all day ride if you want to rack up some miles.

Thanks Jeff, Clint, and Robo!

Jeff, I'll have to see about Sunday. I'm finding more and more that I dislike riding in groups. I do want to meet everyone though, so I'll try and have an answer soon.
