Hey Guys

I picked up my bike in November of 2015 and I thought myself well versed in all things Tenere these forums, however, have shown me i'm not. So I searched the forums for answers and I still have questions.

1. Whats all this about a the throttle body sync? I only have 2000 miles on my bike so far. Is it necessary? Will it make a difference and will my local Yammie dealer do it?

2. I've seen a few comments about the power being cut in the lower gears. Is this correct and if so how much? and is Touring really a 70% cut in power? The bike does feel more lethargic but not by that much.

3. I have 3 unused connections under my seat any ideas?

4. This is the most important where can I find Super Tenere decals? more the to the point the ones that say 1200 adventure?

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Hope all is well.

What year is your bike?, if it is a pre- 2014 model then (2) it may benefit from having the ECU remapped which will de-restrict the first 3 gears and also reducing engine braking, also smooth out T-mode and make S-mode less snatchy.
1) TB syncing is useful, some bike need it some run just fine without and your local dealer should be able to do it.
3) Don't touch the three plugs under your seat, these are for diagnostic only!! If you need aux power connections, Yamaha have given you two, under the RHS cover just forward of the battery, they even come with male end plugs, there is a whole thread on that on the forum.
4) a member on here makes decals...

it balances the air being sucked into the engine via the throttle bodoes, because all this made in 2's are not equal neither is the engine or TB's, there is an adjustment screw that allows one side to add or remove a little extra air so the engine breathes equal puffs. Having unequal sync, you bike can have a bit more vibes etc. Always good to check if you are under the tank already doing service inspection like plugs or air filters.

2> Power is reduced to approx 70% in gears 1/2/3. it is not cut by 70%.

3> as posted above

4> as posted above or search ebay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=super+tenere+decals&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xsuper+tenere+1200+decals.TRS1&_nkw=super+tenere+1200+decals&_sacat=0

Need to know the Year and Model. There are answers for all your questions.

Throttle body sync: this is common and needs to be completed occasionally. A Harmonizer http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/harmonizer-vacuum-multi-tool-it-aint-your-daddys-twinmax.701625/ makes easy work of this maintenance item.

My 2015 ES is in the shop as I type. 8,4xx miles and I was getting error fault codes. The Intake Air Pressure Sensor is bad and needs to be replaced. The Throttle Position Sensor's needed to be adjusted as well as the Throttle Bodies needed to be sync'd. We are guessing the problems started early. Should be a rocket when I get it back on the 26th.

If you are close enough you are welcome to use my Harmonizer to sync your TB's (if needed).

I guess I left out vital info! Mine is a 2015 ES. And I did mean reduced not cut, I've seen varying reports of output everything from 90 to 112 HP. So a 30% power reduction drops output down to 63 to 86 ponies.....maybe a ecu flash is in order. Thanks for all the info so far. And thanks for the offer, but I'm a little far to use yours. I have a service coming up maybe ill look into it.

I'm not sure the shop would do the sync the way we've found it needs to be done. Spec says to leave the painted screw seated and adjust the other to balance. We've found that you need to unseat the painted one 3/4 of a turn then balance.
The power drop is only in the first three gears, and only the first few thousand rpm. It seems like it's only the throttle map, though it could be timing and/or fuel too. Things really start to pick up over 3500 or so. 30% seems like too much, I don't think so.
Diagnostics. My '12 only has one under the seat that I recall.
I have extra 1200 Adventure stickers. I should be able to find them... yep, they were where I thought they were. I have extra Twisted triangles too, highly reflective.
What part of Cali are you in?

More than one dyno has found about 85-ish hp at the tire. Some folks have increased it to about 100. There are threads here in the forum and here is an example outside:

Yamaha claims for the 2014+ Super tenere's is 112hp/84kw

T mode - doesn't cut the power and torque output as such it limits the amount of throttle you can have.

T-Mode changes the progression of the throttle meaning you need to twist it further to get the same amount you would get in S-Mode, and with the throttle twisted 100% you get a maximum of 70% opening at the throttle bodies.

you could have 2 identical Teneres side by side one in T-mode and the other in S-mode and drag them. Provided the rider in S-Mode only used 70% throttle and the rider in T-mode knew to Twist the throttle further in theory they would cross the line at the same time.

If you dynode the 2 throttle modes the peak power and torque of the T-Mode run would be less but not 30% less

One of the problems with this forum is the fact we have a mix of Gen 1 and Gen 2 owners while the bikes look near identical and most things are interchangeable there are some very key differences around the specs that make things confusing.

On the VFR forum I visit the forum is divided by generations of the bike to avoid confusion.

One example is power outputs and restrictions, some new 2014+ owners think their bikes are restricted because the the 2010-13 owners dominate the forum and a lot of talk centres around the 2010-13 model. The 2014+ does not have the restrictions and makes more power.

Thanks for this article. It's awesome that this place is local to us. Now that I know where to take it, I'll probably end up there sometime this year. I really don't think the bike needs more power, but I also enjoy tinkering and not leaving well enough alone.

Nice article. Maybe someday spend the $1200 but I like my bike stock.
Sure it could be a little louder a little faster. Would like to get different exhaust someday but I'm fine with mine purring like a kitten.
As soon as my poor brother spends $30,000 on a Harley, the first thing he does is spend another $2000 on new pipes and then he wears earplugs! ???
Nice to see what it can do though. Thanks for the link.

That's because of the 'Loud pipes saves lives" mantra, which is BS! ::002::

I put on a little louder exhaust, but it's for me, not others............ ::014::

This make much more sense then what I previously heard. Thanks for the heads up.

I have the Yoshie RS-4 on my bike. The yosh rep I spoke to claimed that id see about 8 hp increase in power. The bike is still incredibly quite. i haven't removed the baffle because of a spot weld on the allen head holding it in, so i may remove it and see how the bike sounds. Im a fairly large guy and i ride 2 up often so a little more power wouldn't hurt.
