For the first time I had my wife on the back because I wanted to show her these amazing Clearwater lights at night. When she got on they of course were higher as the rear shock compressed. I got off and started cranking up the preload on the rear shock. It was a bit tough but then it got really easy... as in nearly no resistance at all! Did something let loose? Did the plastic knob strip out? You guys have any ideas? How difficult is it to remove the shock on the S10 or to re-spring it? I have a feeling that with my 260# plus riding gear it is fine... but add being m packed up for a trip to Alaska and another month of wandering the rear shock will be under sprung and I need a better shock or at least a better spring in the meantime.
TIA,
TG

I would have soaked it in something first.

Thanks! I believe it is stripped. I made the decision to go with a new shock but they might not be able to get it to me before I leave for Alaska. I will know by today. If not then I'll order this knob.

Ordered because the lead time on a Penske is 5 weeks. Ordered a new upgraded spring too. Now to look up the process of removing the rear shock and spring removal. Have to do more research.
Read the thread when another member here indicated Thermosman in Georgia had a new Penske in stock if anyone was interested. Shock was ordered came in, but another brand was sourced first, now Thermosman has a new Penske sitting on the Shelf.
Contact him and see if he still has it.
One of the most highly regarded suspension tuners in the USA.

I have ordered a stiffer spring from Traxxion Dynamics Suspension made for my weight and gear with the capacity to ride two up or single loaded with bags and top box full. $155.
Also ordered the aluminum knob. Total with shipping and taxes $50.
This should do well and I can have all this done before July 14th and at a much cheaper price. If I am not pleased with it I can always change it out this winter. I looked at a few videos and it looks like a real easy job to change it out. My local shop said they can swap the spring out. I may try it myself though. Spring should be here in a week to 10 days. I might as well grease the lower suspension bolts and the bearings while I do this too.
