One of the original members and a awesome bass player in his time. Saw them in concert with David Lee and Sammy Hagar but I believe he had a falling out with the brothers Alex and Eddie VH. Of course this was in my party days no more of that.

Actually, I am just old enough to forget. ::) Lost interest after the 1984 album. Funny I liked Hagar as a soloist and hated David Lee Roth as one. Liked Van Halen with DLR but not with Hagar.

"Right Now" is probably my favorite VH song, and it's from the Hagar vintage. I thought Hagar did a fine job, but I can understand the bias for the "original."

Same thing with Guns 'N Roses - Chinese Democracy is actually a heck of an album, but it isn't liked by most because it's sans Slash.

As a self proclaimed head banger, I think my problem is that they lost their hard edge when Hagar joined. I think the music is alright with Hagar and I don't hate it (like I do DLR solo stuff) but it is somewhat homogenized. Now "have you seen junior's grades?"

I always thought their hard edge dropped off a cliff with the 1984 album. I'll take anything they did from VH1 through Fair Warning. After that they became a pop band in my mind. Sammy had some good stuff before joining, but he also became a pop singer with VH. Even that stuff has a place. I us it as background music on home movies.
