how to reset odo trip 1/2 maintenance settings etc on gen 2 STs and FJ9

So I picked up my new FJ9 today...magic.

Filled it up, and managed to reset one of the trips. Went to the trip 1/2 menu, held down reset, till one flashed, up down button and hit reset again. Job done.

Came home to drop the oil for the first time and wanted to do the same with the maintenance feature.
held menu
got to menu choices
picked mainenance (hold menu to choose)
then held the reset button.....and nothing...3 seconds nothing 6 seconds nothing...

what am I doing wrong.

Oh and I did read that part of the manual :

I wanna know since I haven't been able to reset any of these features and I have had mine since 5/23/2015.

One quick touch of reset button. Display will flash. Then push and hold.
