Yanks just don't get coffee. That swill you drink in large cups is not proper coffee. The handpresso or similar espresso machine will make a great shot. Bring on the hate but you have to leave the USA to get good coffee. I bet someone tells me Starbucks is good. Haha. They went broke in Australia.

you just need to come hangout with me. Lots of national forest and probably the best coffee in the states. I will give you this it’s very hard to find good quality coffee here and the worst is Starbuck. we have a local roaster here that imports fine beans. Great coffee for sure and when ground proper for the aero press can make a decent ”espresso“ All that said some times on a very cold morning I like a italiano which is basically 2 parts espresso to 2 parts hot water. That brings out the fruit notes cleaner than just straight espresso. I can agree we make like different styles of coffee but to say my likes proves I don’t get it is far from true.

Close to 20 years ago, I watched a show on how to care for, and brew coffee the proper way. They also spoke about which beans were the "best". I remember that they talked about arabica beans being crap. The guy said to stay away from arabica; he referred to it as what was left on the floor. I remember looking at the grocery store, and seeing some brands listing arabica as the ingredient, and others listing 100% Columbian. But, for at least the last 10 years, arabica is all that is available;

So, with all you coffee connoisseurs out there. . . . what do y'all think? Any merit to what that guy said?

Not sure he was right. Need to ask an expert. Robusta and Arabica make up the majority of coffee in the world. The best in PNG is Arabica. It appears most Columbian coffee is Arabica as well.

Detour, but most important ingredient to good coffee is freshly roasted beans, about equal is that they're freshly ground. Don't buy from a grocery store, go straight to a coffee roaster (in store/or online). Highly recommend a decent burr grinder at home to grind your beans right before brew.

As far as coffee when camping, I go for "cowboy" coffee for the sake of simplicity and minimalism. Grind up some beans before I leave home. In the morning, boil some water, mix up a couple teaspoons of coffee right in the cup. Enjoy

Grinds settle at the bottom of the cup, but you will get some in your mouth, all part of the camping experience. Cleanup involves simply rinsing out the cup

If you want a more cultured experience, I cannot recommend using an Aeropress enough. At home or otherwise. Makes absolutely delicious coffee with near zero cleanup.

I've heard good things about the Starbucks Via instant packets, there's also a bunch of hipster instant packet alternatives, but I keep on forgetting to try any of it.

Show it off to us, I have some friends who swear by the jet boil. I’d like to see pics of the press adapter.

I use a jet boil flash too. Haven’t had a lot of use from it yet but when I tested it, it was very quick.
