Very cool!

I've never gotten into the whole gps thing except on one occasion when someone ELSE created the "route" for a 210 mile desert race. I discovered my smartphone could actually load that route and it was SO valuable that day since my pace had me riding alone, and rarely seeing another competitor to give me faith in my choices. Lol

I just might want\need to learn this process for myself.

By the way, I notice you post here more than you do "there". Don't know if it means anything specific, but I got a grin out of it.

I've used City Nav and Topo with Basecamp extensively and I can't share the writer's enthusiasm over the road network in Topo - it's nice to have the elevation contour lines in Topo, but the road network is so wildly out-of-date, it is virtually useless, at least in my neck of the woods (west coast) I'm talking Topo showing roads that haven't existed since 1950! And if your Topo doesn't route, you'll need to build point-to-point routes or do custom tracks.

City Nav (despite the name) is remarkably good with their backroad network. In my experience, I've found little or no advantage to Topo other than the elevation contours.

I have had the complete opposite experience here in Appalachia. Time and time again, I am dumbfounded that this "path" through the backcountry that passes for an old road is actually on Garmin and accurately located.

Some use notes tho... the TOPO 100k is NOT routable, while the TOPO 24k is routable. Also... subscribing to Garmins Birds Eye satellite imagery service adds another level of detail when you can take the super accurate TOPO 24k mapping and superimpose it upon a satellite pic.

A number of times I've had TrikePilot's good experiences with OSMand+.
