How misinformation has slowly help kill the 1200XTZ

So I was out on a joy ride yesterday, put on around 300kms. We stopped at a lodge for lunch, sitting outside in their patio we were close to a lineup of other motorcycles, mostly HD.
While sitting there I could hear 2 guys looking at my S10, Harley riders, you could tell by their attire. In the conversation between them the weight of the S10 came up and one guy said its a whale of a bike, that Yamaha's are too heavy to be any good as an ADV. While a third guy joined the conversation, also a Harley rider said your not suppose to tip them over.
I innocently stayed out of the conversation as if I did not hear or owned the bike, just listen in.
Anyhow, that night (last night) I decided to do a little research on this weight issue you hear so much of in comparison with 2 other main brands. I did not check others.
Comparing flag ships of the brand in the category.
I checked several sources for specification and took the average.
The Super Tenere 1200XTZ bare bike RTR comes in at 566lbs.
The BMW GSA 1250 bare bike RTR comes in at 590lbs
The KTM SuperAdventure bare bike RTR comes in 544lbs
Interestingly the KTM is chain drive, not shaft drive and only 22lbs lighter.
So my question is, WTF is the weight issue in the S10?
Other then You Tube misinformation, internet Trolls being underhanded compensated by competition, the S10 falls right in there with any other large ADV motorcycles, to bad minions fall for You Tube and Internet BS and don't do the research.
If this guy was interested in the S10, his buddy killed that, cause now he thinks its heavier then anything else out there.

One can't control what fools think or say so just let it go. Talking of weight, most Harley's weigh close to 1000 pounds so funny to hear them mention weight being an issue. They like riding couches and we like something more fun and has a light off-road capability. Ours will also outlast their's by years and years.

Oh, I don't know. The Harley PA is 559/wet. If the Harley faithful go ADV, they're going to go with the PA. If they're not ride or die Harley guys, they'll read around. And if they get a test ride, they'll know the truth: don't believe everything you hear.

I'm guessing the majority would be shocked to learn how much this fully-loaded machine weighs (with Me astride, with full gear on) rolling down the trail on my recent trip to the Desert-SW................

PS: I did roll it up onto a zero'd Truck-Scale at an undisclosed location just as I was leaving Grand Junction and heading towards Gateway, CO.
Full tank of Fuel. Granted, I was also carrying around 8-liters of Water in various bladders.

As you've had one for enough years to know, what do you think? How much is too much is obviously very personal but the bike does fine in places the nay-sayers would not expect.
For the noobs to the group: (Most shots are not of mine)

I'm not sure where the misinformation comes into play. Comparing the weight of the various adventure bikes tells me one thing; that they're all pretty porky bikes. We all love this bike or else we wouldn't be here, but come on...this bike is freaking heavy. I've had to pick up a dropped HD Road King and the S10, and with the way the weight is distributed on an S10 (especially with a full gas tank), it may be even harder to hoist back onto its wheels than the Harley. The Harley guy ain't lying; they suck to pick up when they fall over.

And since the S10 has been in continuous production since 2010, I don't think misinformation is making a big dent in sales. I wish all misinformation campaigns were as unsuccessful.

Not even close!
For the record....................I don't weigh anywhere near 875-lbs. Closer to 285-ish with all my gear on :p
Well, with that information . . . . plus one, carry the two . . . . you and the bike is probably closer to 925lbs, depending on which underwear you packed. :D

Still not even close!
I did say the majority would be shocked......................

I rode by and saw the truck-scale inside the fence by the road........The display was lit up, and the gate was wide open. Nobody around.........
I flipped a u-turn and rolled in through the gate.. Verified the scale read zero, rolled myself and the bike up onto the scale and stopped. Waited a few seconds for the numbers to stabilize.
The display read "Eleven-Hundred and Twenty"!
Yes..........1120-lbs!

Well, they should get the 700 Tenere or the new TransAlp. Not as comfortable on a long day though.
SkunkWorks... those are trails that I like. First pic... not enough speed to get over?
Maybe it's because I have been riding Goldwings forever or top heavy liter sport bikes. This bike isn't heavy unless you pack heavy and the footing isn't good or it is tipped over facing down hill. I was riding with a buddy in Whistler, CA and he stopped fast and tipped over on his GS1250 Rallye and he was getting ready to take his stuff off. He was loaded. Using the right technique I had it up quickly. I am 6'3" (and for Sierra1...270#) 59 and out of good shape as I am a bit pear shaped now! Technique is key.
But it is true. I have heard a lot of bad stuff about this bike but it is a trooper even on trails as bad or a little worse than what Skunkworks showed. It can handle them with ease as long as your tires are the right type. This is coming from a life long Honda rider who wanted an AT. I am going to be riding an AT across PA on the CPAAT this coming week. I'll let you know what I think of it... as it is only about 45# lighter and has that 21"wheel. 45#... that's hardly enough to even think about... oh, it has 1 less gallon of gas capacity... that right there puts it down in the 30# range for difference and I like shaft drives way more than chain. Nuff said
