I'm using Motul 300V 5/40W fully syn ever since 2500km..
now at 16XXXkm, everything runs smooth..

Used Belray gear oil changed every 5000km..
No problem there brother--motul is as good as oil gets!

580 miles and the only problem so far is wiping the friggin' grin off my face. What a joy this bike is to ride! Only complaint is buffeting, but plan on ordering a screen adjustment bracket to take care of that little annoyance.

Plan on taking her to the dealership for the first checkout this weekend; I'll drain and replace every thing with synthetics at 2,000 miles and carry on with all non-warranty maintenance myself thereafter...

Anybody know the torque specs on the spokes, I just don't trust a dealership to take the time to actually check each and every one - and I'd like to make sure they're snugged up all nice and proper...

Smooth sailin', runs like a top! 8500 worry-free/problem-free miles. Has incredible torque and handling and just a H U G E - E S C A P E / E N J O Y M E N T / F U N factor. With ALL the technology, and for the price, it is such a great deal! ::022::

Have a new set of Heidenau K60s in the stable ready to go on just b4 the Spring gittyup.

Happy Trails.

51.6 in/lbs or 4.3 ft/lbs. Just did mine about 40 minutes ago. There are a couple of threads on wheels and spokes. "check your spokes" being one of them. If you need Nm, I'll look it up in the shop manual. IIRC, page 6-18?

It's common to find some loose ones during the first couple of checks. I found some a full turn loose, but most that were loose were just a 1/4 to 1/2 turn, (my first time). Try to do things evenly so you don't pull the wheel out of true. I'm no expert at this stuff, but people that seem to know a lot, talk about alternating spokes when you check them. I put a mark on the wheel and just went around with the torque wrench and 6 mm allen socket on a 6" extension. Checked the wheel run out side to side and it was less than +/- .01", so good enough for me.

Today there were only a few that moved at all. And those only tightened up a very small amount. ~16k on the bike.

Many thanks for the info - I can hand the Nm conversion, and will check those threads before I go cranking on them. Never had a bike this heavy with spokes before so I need to educate myself a bit on this. Thanks again!

Great info. I have a feeling if anyone does report a problem it will be a small one and not one that will leave you standed. Like my BMW F D

Just shy of 19,000 miles. I had one loose spoke after a tire change at almost 15K, but that has been it. The bike impresses me more every day. On road or off, every time I ride it, I feel that I made the right choice for my needs, and that Yamaha's execution is excellent.

I've only heard about the cold starting problem. Also the spoke plating fades quickly. I personally have Buchanan's make me stainless polish spokes and I replace them on all my spoked bikes. http://www.buchananspokes.net/

As far as the break in and oil everyone is talking about, I break in all my cars and bikes this way http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm than the first oil change goes full synthetic oil.

Just thought, had to have timing looked at just before 6,000 mile service as the bike cut out at the lights two or three times. Not done it since and the mechanic said it was a know issue.

Don't get me wrong, I really like my S10. These butter rims are starting to piss me off.
Just got back from Baja. Bent the front in several spots. To the point it couldn't seal the tire.
KTM rider had an 18" tube that saved my ass.

This will be the second time the wheel will have to be sent out for work. The rear seems to
have survived the trip. It got bent up the last time out.

Fork seal failed. Pissing fluid the whole trip.

Riding at sea level made me want the reflash bad. Man it ran strong. :)

Uh oh! Might be time to have Woody lace a stronger rim on. 8) I heard he has a new KTM-chasing model. :D

9300 miles and two issues. The hard starting issue happened once. Blew the tail light fuse while riding in Hurricane Irene. NOT the bike's fault. The controller in my Hyperlite failed and took the fuse with it. Fuse fixed the light issue and Hyperlite replaced the controller.

I contend this is the best bike I've ever owned. Like it so much I bought another one.

15,827 trouble free miles.
I have owned over 30 bikes and ridden a bunch of miles, the Tenere looks like its going to be one of my all time favorites.

I've had absolutely zero problems with mine; a very happy camper :)

I wonder what became of the fellow from Iceland who had the intermittent problem with elavated RPM? He's the only person that I know of that had a legitimately serious problem with the bike. I dunno if he finally went with another bike or what the outcome was.

As I read all this info a few things come to mind. I have had the bike stall one or two times but no big deal. Starting has been an issue one or two times as well but again so far and few I did not worry about it. The one thing that does bother me is the spedo reads 80mph and my GPS is showing 74 mph. For a dig spedo I would think this would be more accurate. All and all this is one great bike. PS I wish it had a temp gauge.

you're in luck, it actually has 2 temp gauges, one for engine temp and one to show the air temp at the air box.
What temp gauge are you wanting ?

I've owned a lot of Japanese bikes. The FJR is the only one that had an accurate speedometer. I agree it's annoying that they intentionally set them to read high by 8 to 10%, but I've learned to expect it.
