Sat down with my morning coffee and decided to make a list of all the bikes I'm owned over forty plus years of riding...

How old are you?
I only ask because I think it is too late for me to recall the list accurately.

I have actually forgotten a bike that I still have when making a quick mental list.

I do know that if this were the 1800's, I'd probably love horses and have a few.
But not in the normal sense. It wouldn't be animal love. It'd be riding love. Know what I mean?

Just turned sixty four, it's the new fifty four I'm told..


Two I'm sorry I sold.. The 1984 BMW R100 last edition, there were only 12 that year in Canada and the 1985 BMW GS 800 cc with the orange seat, rebuild the complete bike with the help of friends right down to the transmission.

My list is pretty small, but spread over 50 years. 2 years without a bike in that time.
Bird Wren minibike (kit bought from a Popular Mechanics ad)
1970 Honda CL 100 (bought new - My parents let me get a bike, but it had to be a new one that only I paid for - probably to keep it small)
196? Kawasaki 175 2 stroke dirt bike (not working, fixed it. rotary valve, fun bike, gave it away)
1973 Honda CB 450 (not running from my older brother, fixed it, used it through college, then gave it back to my brother. he caught someone trying to steal it, then sold it to the thief - he figured the guy was going to come back and steal it anyway.)
3 basket case '70s Honda 450s (fixed two, used one for many years, gave the others to a brother in law)
1978 Kawasaki KL250 (not running, fixed it, still have it. don't use it at all. it's becoming a classic. should sell it.)
1985 Honda CB750 Nighthawk (shaft drive. Used it for years commuting.)
1995 Honda VFR750 (Great bike. Used it until I got the Tenere. My back got too old. That v4 was just fantastic!)

After having the BMW, Yamaha FJ1200, and Concours and hating all 3, I reverted to my old Kawasakis for many years before getting the GL1800, then the Tenere. These are the end of the line in my motorcycle ownership.

81 Yamaha Venture Royale. 25k in 20 years. Family and work got in the way of riding.

2005ish Honda vtx1500r? Never liked it so sold it to my son in law. Then totaled it and 5 ribs at Christmas.

2011 Yamaha Tour Deluxe. This one and the friends I rode with changed me from someone who rode a bike to a rider. 2012 rode to Star Days where I won the Yamaha provided auction bike:

2010-2012 Yamaha Stratoliner Deluxe. Vin said 2009 Roadliner but this was the first Strat Deluxe. Yamaha owned and used it for all the custom chrome and oem part upgrades. They gave it two custom paint jobs, the original that was reviewed and in the MC magazines. When the bags changed in 2012 they repainted it. 2012 also added the Garmin 665 to the Deluxe. Mine had a non-standard audio system. They made changes to the prod bikes. Lots of fun in 40k miles.

2014 10 ES. Still have it.

2016 Indian Roadmaster. Took a demo home. After a ride my wife told me to "bring it home!" The 10 is my bike. Indian is hers, even though she only rides behind me.

Wow, I thought I was the only one. Good to know there are other total Motonuts out there.

I bet many of you remember how in the late 70's and early 80's how there were so many riders and models to chose from and how that dried up by the late 80's early 90's. I can remember riding my 86 XT600 around and it was pretty rare to see another bike on the road.

Y'all have way too much spare money. RonH, how could you hate the FJ1200? Until the Tenere, it was my favorite bike.

Gosh I hated that thing. That seat that seemed comfortable in the showroom was torture for me, it sat me in like a V slot that forced one position seating, and it just didn't work for me, then talk about horrible turbulence. That thing was like being behind a semi non-stop and it couldn't hold a straight line down the highway because of it. One day I rode it like 170 miles and I really didn't think I was going to make it. Before I bought the FJ, I had a FZ750 Yamaha I rode 1100 miles in one day, and a FZR1000 after that, and had no problem with these bikes at all so thought the FJ by all logic should be better. Not for me. Dumb as it sounds, I hated it so bad I really debated 3 ways to "dispose" of it. Beat with a sledgehammer, set out in the yard and just watch the thing rot for eternity or just simply sell. I did sell, but all these years I kind of wished I would have done one of the other options. Believe it or not, my salesman that I bought my 2017 Super Tenere from is the guy who bought my FJ1200 from me 27 years ago.
