Normally you pronounce it like Tee nee ree because officially you write Ténéré and the "é" is pronounced like a long ee.

I had one of the Yamaha ride leaders on my demo ride correct me twice. I finally told him, you are in Texas, and we call it whatever we want.. Funny thing, he never mentioned it again. lol So the moral of the story is, pronounce it any way you want, we know what you mean.. 8)

I like this first part from Wikipedia they included Yamaha ;D

For other uses of "Ténéré", see Yamaha XTZ 750.

The Ténéré (Berber: Tiniri, literally: desert, wilderness) is a desert region in the south central Sahara. It comprises a vast plain of sand stretching from northeastern Niger into western Chad, occupying an area of over 154,440 square miles (400,000 km²). Its boundaries are said to be the Aïr Mountains in the west, the Hoggar Mountains in the north, the Djado Plateau in the northeast, the Tibesti Mountains in the east, and the basin of Lake Chad in the south.

Thanks, Graham. I'll go with your reference.

In truth, the acute "e" is used in a large number of languages, each of which is different. One could probably go on forever with the discussion. The answer would be different in every case, depending upon where your great grandparents came from.

Anyone know how to properly pronounce Porsche? (hint: it's not porch)(second hint: Who really cares?)

Agree - and if someone wants to know what it is, then you can say Yamaha XT1200Z "SUPER T".

Oh and not to hijack this thread but blue is the correct historic cultural color for this bike as noted by Wikepedia
The Tuareg people are nomads of the Sahara who speak various Tuareg languages. Of Berber descent they are also known as the Blue Men of the Sahara in reference to the blue robes they wear., Just saying....
