Picked up this old war horse today. 1996 XR650L. lots of off road extras and real shitty panniers. Wiseco Big Bore kit done 5k ago, Runs great and I rode it 40 miles home. Nice after market seat. She has all the battle scars of a life well lived. $2150 fair value I think. Tires are in order...

Rode it home, it never ceases to amaze me how people have their bikes set up. I understand it is an old bike with alot of saddle time but geez. Get your controls in comfortable working order. Maybe I am old and picky but I need my stuff to be right. I love these old tanks, I rode home with a big smile on my face. Retro cool old school bikes. I never tire of riding something different and learn all nuances and noises and qwirks. That is what makes our passion so amazing. It never gets old.

We had a few different 2 valve xr bikes. They were wheelie specials and rock solid bikes. You didn't even have to know how to ride and could wheelie one of those. I had one 4 valve xr with the twin carbs and it was junk. Well mine was. could not keep that engine together.

The nice thing is that they make a 2022 model that is almost exactly the same. 30 years of making virtually the same bike means there are lots of parts out there and you can make the bike into anything you want.
