With a couple of hours of garage time and about $35... I took 2-0.08", 12"x12" Kydex panels and handcrafted a pair of wind deflectors and hand guard extensions. Not a bad Saturday.
First I made a manila folder template.

Then cut the shape out of Kydex.

I attached the Kydex, heated and bent it in place. Carefully covering the surrounding body work.
Then I removed the Kydex, re-heated it and used a piece of wood to straighten things out a bit. BTW...#10-24 Wellnuts work great for the install. They fit perfectly in the pre drilled holes.

Here are some shots of the final product. Not perfect, but they do seem to make a difference on the road and in the wallet. The hand guard extensions work, but not quite as much as expected.

The hand guard extension required a bit more finesse. The front lip had to be formed by hand, then installed with the first two screws and molded in place to finish.

Now that I have those done, a dash panel and my budget pannier project are next. I can't wait to get these mounted up.

Nice work! ::008::

You may find that if you trim out the lip on the top of the handguards, so that your extensions are angled more strait up, they will work better for you. Jamie V did this and it looked quite good, and if I recall, also worked well to keep rain off his hands. I've been meaning to do this myself, but haven't gotten a round tuit yet.

The hand guards actually stand up a bit more than the photo would suggest.
I think if I removed the far inside screw to release some tension, I could re-heat them and pull them up further.
I think if they turned at the outside edge and came back a little along the side it would help too.
It's not super critical since I live in Fla and really only intend to keep them on during our cool weather.
Thanks for the kudos.

Thinking about making something to go under the headlight to fill that gap. I don't feel the need for a lightbar, so cheap panel may be the answer.

Something like this perhaps? Made mine out of some 3mm aluminium plate and a piece of mesh that I had lying around. Using Kydex would probably do just as well, and be lighter too. :)

yes something a lot like that. Will probably use a small piece of aluminum, or a piece of clear plastic, then paint it.

Gotta get back to the right side of the world before I do much more planning on it. Can't wait to get home, it's been a long time since I rode or enjoyed the comforts of home.

You don't happen to have a flat pattern of that, do you...? :popcorn

I got the Kydex off Amazon at "Plastics 2000". The 12"x12" sheets were about $7.50.
I used a plain old heat gun to form the Kydex. It works like a champ. Maybe next time I'd use a bit thicker
(0.93" maybe) panel for the wind deflectors.
Those bends on the hand guard extensions are a bit more complex, so the 0.80" works fine.
Thanks!

Nice! Me likey. The mesh makes it look like a mouth. Ok, after the dash panel and panniers, this will the next project.

For my wind deflectors and handguards I used black PVC guttering ( water spout/channel) offcuts from a skip. Placed into an oven at about 140/160 Celsius it'll fall flat. On a worktop you can make a good flat sheet to use with your templates and then heat and fold.
