...and by Jamacia, I mean Minnesota.
Just picked up a '13 1200 and couldn't be more excited.
I found this thing with a thrown cam chain. After making sure I could get a replacement head, I decided to gamble on it.
Got it home a few weeks ago, removed the cams, and turned the crank by hand.
Took out the shims, measured them, reinstalled them. The valves didn't seem lodged, so installed the cams, and put back in time.
Installed a manual cam chain tensioner for now.
Went to drain the oil and found stripped threads in the front drain plug.
Found a M14x1.5 reamer, and matching drain plug and removed the oil pan.
Tapped it last night, cleaned out all the grime and aluminum shavings and had it back together.
Got the thing started this afternoon! PUMPED!!
Haven't ridden it yet. I was expecting to rebuild the entire top end this winter, so I'm over the moon right now.

Sup everyone!

Hello from Australia!
With skills like that at getting a bike running again, you might be eligible to own a Ducati one day

Update::
I fired this thing up again the other night and smoked out my garage.
The bike came with the valve cover, 2 spark plugs and the tensioner all removed.
To try and clear the cylinders and rings from any rust, I sprayed a good amount of wd-40 in and let it soak while resetting the timing.
I kind of figured the smoke was a combination of assembly grease, residual wd-40, injector cleaner, and sitting outside for months but it continues to smoke after a few startups.
It's not really bad... giving it gas, lets a nice plume onto the ground tho.
The coolant isn't mixing with oil, so I doubt it's a head gasket issue. The exhaust doesn't smell sweet either, more like just burning oil. After reading up a bit, it seems like its most likely the gen 1 rings and pistons letting extra oil by. There wasn't a lot of oil in the airbox, but some...
On order are updated pistons, rings, and gaskets!

How old is the fuel?
I’ve got an 83 Mustang that has sat for over 20 years but, while it still had an operational engine in it, I started it with 3 year old fuel in it & it smoked out the street. I kept it running because I could see the funny side of a Ford blowing chugs of smoke.
It’s on the hoist as a giant paperweight waiting for me to get around to doing something to get her running again.
So, in the midst of that Ronnie Corbett shaggy dog story, it was the fuel that was the issue.

Well I don't know who this Ronnie Corbett character is, but it's worth a shot.
Ronnie Corbett was one half of The Two Ronnies. A show out of the UK in the 70’s.
The other Ronnie was more well known in being Ronnie Barker.

I knew a guy named Ronnie once.
Anyways....
I just pulled 3 1/2 gallons of brown fuel out.
I did a sniff test vs some other known fresh premium, and they don't seem the same.
This stuff is sour almost.
Getting excited. It might just be the gas afterall.......

Yo, Thanks for the suggestion Matt51F1!
I put a few ounces of gas in and no more smoke. Never had a gas issue before so I hadn't considered it.
On to the next steps of getting this thing ridable!!

New/Fouled gas
