Ever since I have had my tenere I have noticed a high pitched wind related noise around the 50-55mph mark. Its been there with crash bars or not, different tires, windscreen on stock bracket in all positions, windscreen on madstad bracket, with or without winglets and with or without a dash infill panel, with or without passenger.

It seems to come from the front of the bike down low but I cant for the life of me figure it out! Any suggestions?

And you're positive it's not your helmet? I don't know if I could hear anything, other than my music, over the helmet's wind noise. It could also be a resonant frequency vibration and not wind.

Positive, I ride with my same helmet on different bikes, my GF on the back seat can hear it, I can hear it with my head in clean wind or tucked behind the windscreen.

If you hear it at the same speed going into the wind and with the wind . . . . it's not wind related. Can't be. The velocity would be different which in turn would cause the sound at either a higher or lower speed. If it is heard only at the speed, it's going to be mechanical.

Def changes going with or against the wind as one would expect a wind related noise. At altitude more speed is required to hear it as wind is less dense.

It's 100% a wind noise on the bike... hell I have even shifted to neutral and shut the bike off at 70 and let it coast through the 60 to 50 range and sure enough you can hear it come and go.

I guess I'll start taping things up till I find it.

If it's not bearing buzz, like Matt says, Use duck tape and cover the places that could generate a whistle, tape the air inlet of the plastic mask that is under the windshield (it has a triangular cover with a yamaha sign)…..between it and the headlight , there is a small separation, which could make the wind sound like a whistle ... .. any small hole, can cause the wind to accelerate and cause a whistle

A tinfoil helmet may protect you from it.

Lol I need a tinfoil helmet for other things. But this one is not one of em. Even the GF can hear it when she's on the back with me.

Of course the painters tape roll was all used up, guess I gotta ride to the hardware store to grab a roll so I can start taping seams up.

I don't know about a tin foil hat, but it's one hell of a rabbit hole. It's a bike. There is nothing smooth on it anywhere. Might not be one thing, could be a combo of a number of things. You're lucky that it's such a small speed range. I'd ignore it. Just like I ignore my front tire shake at certain speeds when it gets cupped/worn. I know it's there, I know it won't hurt anything, and I know it will stop in a second when I drop below the cut off speed. But that's just me. Good luck and say hi to Alice.

I always ride with earbuds. They kill all those odd noises s10 makes. Kills wind noise too.All I hear is my kinda loud yosh rs4 When I fire mine up to just move it a little. It sounds ruff.

I get some sort of "tone" at that same speed. Done it for last 31000 miles. Like you, I hear it with a dn without earbuds and with various configuration of windscreens (Madstadt or not, different screens). I found that it seems to happen in 5th gear.

My assumption is that it's a resonant frequency from something. I can't swear that it happened before my Altrider skid plate, but maybe. Or perhaps the skid plate is simply reflecting a sounds.

Don't know if the same as yours or not. I'll try to gauge it on a frequency basis for comparison. Right now I'd put it at the upper mid range of a piano.

Dynamat on the skid plate. It might not stop your particular noise but it will help with a lot of engine noises

Hey! Yes, I hear this too. Is yours a solid tone or does it have little “blips”?

I listened carefully on my commute home and worked to trigger it. My tone comes as a bit of a pulse. The cycle time is roughly a few seconds where it gets louder then quieter over that time. I'd also put the tone a bit lower than I described previously -, sort of lower end of the middle of the piano keyboard.

I'm seriously not worried about it and it doesn't bother me. For other sounds, Dynamat can work. I did that on my wr250r skid plate, which was quite helpful.
