Has anybody changed the stock bulbs to 35 watt HID's, and if so is the cut off still OK, and is the road lit up that much better that this is a worth while mod in your opinion??????

Yes, the future vision HID's are working out well on a friends Tenere . He has been running a 35 and a 50 HID
I am getting a set of the 50 watt HID's to install on my Tenere. The future vision HID has a completely flat cut off on low beam.

Thanks goes out to those to those who commented on the future vision HID kit. A few others reported dead or dark spot after installing an HID...maybe those were a different brand? At least it's good to know that the future visions have a good cutoff. Hows is the light pattern other than that when compared to OEM Low beams?
The 1st hid bulb I installed created a dark spot but this was due to the bulb being too short for the projector lens. Normal length H7 HiD bulbs work fine , H7Rs (which I believe to be short to work with relector lamps (ala car headlamps that arent projectors etc) give the dark spot.
PS I'm runing 1 35W Hid (as I didnt want to risk melting or burning of the lens/shell) and 1 oem halogen when the halogen bulb was new it was hard to spot the difference but now its aged its easy to see that one bulb is brighter (and bluer as the halogen has yellowed).

I have not bought a set for the ST (yet) but will shortly, especially with the change in time coming up and riding home in the dark every day. Looks like they will be amble room to mount the ballasts on this bike!

The ST uses 2 single-filament H-7 bulbs.

I installed OSRAM off-road headlamp H7 12v/65W Px26d and love them the stock H7's are 55W. I found them on Ebay for $7.50 each.

Seems like a killer deal ! Ive used HID in bikes for YEARS. I really like the brightness. I have changed the ST bulbs to the PIAA super bright bulbs, and they are better than stock but not bright enough... I need some HID or some extra driving lights..... If you install these will you take a few pictures of your install and post the before and after PLEASE ! :stevepsd said:

DDM recommends in small projector housings (like on my Tiger and the ST) that you run the 35 watt HID's to eliminate the possibility of overheating the projector housings. I have had no problems at all on my Tiger and the increase in light output switching from the 55 watt Halogens' to the 35 watt HID's is INCREDIBLE!!

Worst bit on installing mine was drilling the hole into the bulb access panel as its easy to crack these if not taking it slowly (did that to a car one a while ago) next hardest bit is mounting the ballasts (i ended up on the LHS inner fairing panel) and stuffing the spare wiring into the headlamp shell. Note as the Hid wires on mine come out of a rubber grommet I've fitted into the bulb access panel these can get close to the fork tube, so careful cable tidying needed to avoid this becoming a rub area. I used the access panel as the wire access point as these should be "cheaply?" available as Yam spares if you ever need to revert (unlike the headlamp shell ?)

Anyone reading this thread in the UK should be aware that aftermarket HIDs are illegal in the UK and will fail an MOT when it comes around :
Its up for debate and has been argued yes and no in many places. As per non standard exhausts whether it fails passes or gets an advisory will very much depend on how well you get on with your local MoT tester and whether they see you as a risk (to them) or sensible adult who will realise what to say when/if checked by Plod ie not "my MoT tester from blah blah blah said it was ok!"Poohbear said:Anyone reading this thread in the UK should be aware that aftermarket HIDs are illegal in the UK and will fail an MOT when it comes around :
