Hi everyone.

I don't own a Tenere but really do like the bike and am considering buying one. I have a couple questions that I would like to get answers on and I thought who better to ask than the actual people who ride them, so here goes, thanks in advance:
I have read dozens of reviews, opinions etc... but not much on riding 2 up, which is actually my main concern. My wife rides about 60% of the time with me and I am curious about how it rides and engine performance with 2 up? My wife and I take long trips, last two was 1250 miles over 4 days and 2600 miles over 8 days, would this bike be fairly comfortable for rides like this? I don't plan on riding interstate very much but how does the bike handle on the interstate in heavy traffic?

I currently ride a cruiser (before cruiser was ST1300) and I know this bike is totally different from both of those but I grew up riding country & dirt roads and I think this bike is what I am looking for to get back to those country roads.

Thanks again for any responses and any additional comments are welcome. I want to learn all I can about it.

Good day, Arkyrider, and welcome. I can't help you with the two up issue, but there are many here who can. I hope you can get the info you require. IN the meantime, take a ride on one if you can. I think you'll like it. Good luck. R

Welcome to the site. I have a Gold Wing for my two up duties so can't comment there. I'm sure someone will chime in shortly. Love the bike otherwise.

Fellow Arky here in Bentonville. My wife and I just got back from a week on the SuperTen and it was wonderful. The ergos are better than my FJR1300. The engine doesn't have the same horsepower or powerband, but it has a great low end and lots of torque. We had it loaded full up and it rode great!
The ergos were much better for her as well. We rode straight from Cumberland Falls , KY to Bville in one day and everything was fine. I've been riding around Winona some with it and it's fun on the gravel roads. Really "the" bike for Arkansas : dirt roads, interstate, country roads whatever. Not single track trails, but just about anything else.

Welcome to the forum Arkyrider! :)

No two up riding here or planned, but lots of highway here and planned. I got this motorcycle to get from point A (florida=mostly boring) to point B (anywhere else=mostly awesome), and that requires a lot of highway/interstate travel. The bike is meeting all expectations I have on the highway…smooth long-haul touring, perfect ergo setup for me, so no major cramps or pains. I just did 1,200 miles this past week in two riding days up to Alabama on mostly interstate. Going up was a breeze…and, although it took about eleven hours with stops, the time flew by on this bike. Coming back I hit terrible weather starting in Montgomery (rain and wind) and several traffic backups from wrecks. Creeping along in slow traffic is nerve racking on any bike, but I was glad to be on the Yamaha compared to some of my previous models. It does great!

Welcome aboard! I bought my SuperT with much the same in mind - to ride two up at least 50% of the time. Due to health reasons, so far it has been 0% for my wife, but hopefully next year will be better!

There have been a few ride reports here from the pillion's perspective and IIRC, most have been positive. The rear saddle has had some of the same negative reviews as the front regarding the texture.

Power two up should be fine if you are comparing to a cruiser, but much less if you are comparing to a ST1300 or FJR1300, but still more than adequate.

Good luck!!!

Fellow arky here. My wife and I just returned from NC. Interstate to to tail of dragon. Tarmack to fire lanes. The bike does it all. It is only limited by rider ability. I have an st 1300 (for sale) a little faster not as comfy and not off road worthy. My wife likes the ten ere better. ::008::

Interstate riding much quieter than the st1300 which always has a helicopter effect to me. Also not pushed around by dirty air from big trucks like the Honda.

Welcome Hog. My daughter is in her sophomore year at U of Ark.

I rode a Venture before buying the Tenere. My wife liked the way the Venture wrapped around her and she felt safer. I always felt her back there and the bike didn't have great brakes when riding two up and fully loaded. I hardly feel her on the Tenere, everything is better riding two up for me. The seat is not as comfortable for her but I got her a gel pad and it's better now. We have the Scala G4 so we have communication as well.

Welcome hope you like it.

Welcome Arkyrider. We rode a Venture before getting the Tenere too. What Freebird said is right on. I can't tell if my wife is back there ,We even ride off road on it together, I have to ask her on the intercom if she is still back there. She said the wind protection is way better on the Tenere. No buffeting. She is finaly getting her seat broke in or getting used to it , she does'nt complaine anymore. My stock seat is the best on earth.
This bike is nicer every time I ride it, I,ve only got 7000 miles on it [ was out of vacation time when I got it ] but I can't get enough of it. I haven't been on the Venture again. [want a good clean Venture]

my experience with two up riding has been positive, to the point of double checking to see if she was still there
What did you and your pillion ride before the SuperT? Did she complain before or did you feel her prescense more previously?

Rode a cruiser, then the ST1300, back to another cruiser. I have an aftermarket seat (Mustang) on our cruiser which is comfortable. She doesn't complain about it. I think actually riding the Tenere will make the final decision for us and if I need to I can always modify the seat to make it more comfortable. It has helped ease my mind that the census is all positive on riding 2 up.
Thanks, but I was asking barking lizard.......

Welcome to the forum. Lotsa info to be found here by some awesome folks.

I ride 2 up on my Tenere 50% of the time and my wife likes the ergo's. Prior to the S-10 our long haul rides were a 6 fitty V-Strom and BMW K1200. The Vstrom ergo's are similar and the BMW is like a recliner. Power and braking are no problem with the S-10 and suspension is OK until you really load it down (too soft). I still have the stock rear shock, but thinking of upgrading as we are really packed riding 2-up with all the camp gear. The main reason I switched from the BMW was it cost to much to own and I wanted to go off road and tour. The main reason I left the zuki was the braking was terrible when going down a mountain with mom on the back and all the gear.

I switched with my brothers FJR recently and I liked the wheelies it does, but the weight on my wrists was unbearable. My wife didn't like riding on the back either. The thing she did like was the ease of getting on and off the FJR. That is her number one complaint of the S-10 being so high it is hard to get on/off especially when panniers are stacked with camp gear. I guess that is a trade off you must deal with to get the extra suspension.

Welcome aboard Ark,
I finally got my other half on the S10 not long ago and she was good with it for the short haul. Havent had her back there for any long trips yet so cant help you there. The wife is still a bit sore at me for letting go of the FJR, which she had really got to like. Just have to give it time. The outback capability is what sets the 10-spot apart from the rest.

She LOVES this bike!

I married her in 1982. She spent very little time, in 30 years, on the back of any bike. Until I brought this Yamaha home one day. (Summer 2011)
She jumped on it for a little jaunt down the road. About 5 minutes into it, she leaned forward and said in my ear, these exact words: "baby, I'll go anywhere with you on this one"

Everything changed. My passion is now her passion. She has sat back there for 10 hour days. Crossed big chunks of different continents. Slept in tents at the bottom and top of mountains. Helped me pick this Beast up off the ground, while we both were laughing at how much fun falling was.

Can't promise you the same results, but I sure hope you can have HALF the enjoyment we have had together on this thing.

Best engineered 2-up ADV bike in the world. Period. :)

Good luck.
