I was outside this afternoon, and noticed that right on my street corner was somebody sitting next to a bike. I figured I'd check it out since it looked like they needed help. It turned out to be a woman rider on a vintage 1969 Honda Hawk (305cc). She'd noticed some vibration in the chain and it turned out she'd lost one of the sides of a chain link so she was stuck. I told her to follow me and I gave her a phone to call for help since she hadn't bothered to take her's with her (I learned she lived only a mile away).

So a friend of her's comes out on another Vintage Hawk with a new chain and though it took a bit to get it on (kind of a PITA without taking off the primary cover) we got it on and away they went.

Seeing those old Honda's up close makes me want to get something similar just to putter around on for fun. Very cool old bikes. My Dad was over and mentioned his first bike was almost the same thing, except instead of a Hawk he had a Honda Scrambler, which had a different pipe on it.

All in all a little something interesting for the day.

This is what the bikes looked like:

Cool you were able to help in a time of need. Motorcycle folks are good people. :)

I was just looking at craigs list at some old bikes I had and wished I could purchase one and have it just for names sake. I think we all had a bike or two we wished we had back. :'(

I was in the Navy in the mid-60's and on board aircraft carriers. We had permission to buy Honda (or other Japanese bikes) while in port in Japan and could haul them back on the ship. I came REAL close to buying a Honda 305 Scrambler while there, but my timing was always off between having the necessary $$ and being in port!!! It never happened, but then about two years after I got out, I bought my first bike: A 1967 Yamaha 305 Big Bear Scrambler!!!

:)

You're a good man Venture .... a regular Samaritan .... helping women in distress is truly heroic. Anyway, that's enough of that. The bikes look cool BTW. 8)

Can't help it. This is the second time that a female rider has broke down at that EXACT same spot. About 3 years ago a woman on an Intruder was sitting there trying to figure out why her bike suddenly died and had nothing electrical working. I just so happened to have the same bike and knew that the battery terminals had a bad habit of losing connection. I fetched a screwdriver, tightened them up for her and she had her electrical back.

I seem to be destined to help female riders that break down on my street corner.
