As a noob member here, I don't want to start posting questions in the wrong forums. That said, can someone break down the difference between the Technical Discussion and Modifications? For example, I want to ask a few questions about electrical wiring for accessories, but am not sure what discussion would be best suited.

Thanks!

We are pretty loose here and you should not have to worry if you sometimes post in the wrong thread. If too far off-base, one of the mods will move the thread for you.

I think of Technical Discussion as just that. The technical discussion of the workings of the bike. Modifications are when we get into changes to the bike, be they mechanical, suspension, electrical and so forth. I realize that oftentimes these can overlap, but you get the idea at least.

Thanks,
Rod

A valid question, Karson. I hope Colorider and Venture chime in here and I don't totally embarrass myself. Okay, too late anyway. First off, you won't be severely punished if you post in the "wrong" category. We have recently stopped dispatching Vinny and Guido to deal with misguided category posters. :D I think the main reason for the various categories is just so readers can more readily find what they are looking for. To attempt to make my point with a ridiculous example, if you're looking for something For Sale, you wouldn't look under Modifications. It just keeps things tidy and makes it easier to find stuff. Sometimes the line will cloud. In that case, just use your best judgement. If it appears to be a glaringly inappropriate designation, someone will move it. No big deal. I'm still learning about this stuff myself. And given what a slow learner I am, it will be a while before I begin to get it right.
To attempt to answer your question, I'd say if you're wanting to ask questions about wiring for accessories, I'd put that in the Technical Discussion category. If it turns into a specific mod that you end up doing, then go there. It will be a judgement call, and again, all in the name of making things easier to find. I think. Venture and Colorider, please jump in here. And thanks for asking. R. ::024:: ::003::

Oops, I see Colorider responded. What he said !!! R.
