Bought a GoPro Hero Black 3+ camera & this is first try with it.

First the GOOD:

My GoPro camera was able to capture an entire 2 1/4 hour ride on a single battery charge. The playback quality of the original microSD card contents is excellent.

But the BAD:

Trying to upload a shortened version to Vimeo Plus repeatedly failed or stalled. I was able to upload it to YouTube but it took about 18 hours!

The quality of the finished YouTube is very poor compared to original version.

I need some helpful hints on processing vid to avoid quality reduction in finished online version and what to do to make uploads faster??

THANKS IN ADVANCE to anyone that has any helpful suggestions.

Mojo - I too recently got a GoPro Hero 3+ black. Here are some things to consider...

Your file size is likely too big - 19minutes is too long for a video - nobody is likely to sit thru it all and it makes the file so large that maybe vimeo is refusing it and youtube is compressing it
what are you editing the RAW video with? The native RAW files from the 3+ are HUGE and need to be converted and edited
There are numerous software options out there so pick one. I am using the gopro studio that is free with the camera and it has it's pros and cons
I have been using google to find online tutorials for what I want to do with the gopro studio software and have been successful
But the bottom line is that you can trim the video down and stitch in other videos and then output a final file that is sized for how you want to use it
I just dove into google and started searching for video editing tutorials and then started playing around.

Worked for me but ymmv

I used Microsoft movie maker 1st to compress. Then uploaded that to YouTube.

I can try the GoPro software next time. How long does a 5 minute vid upload take?
5 hours?

A lot depends on the resolution and frames per sec you're capturing. Unless you're someone who plans to play their vids on a 80" 1080p screen, 720p at 60fps is more than adequate for nearly all computer screens/phones.

Ditto to what Karson said about frame rate - plus it conserves battery life

Download the GoPro app to your smartphone and then link the phone and gopro wirelessly so you can have an easier time navigating all the settings on the camera. As an added bonus, you can easily review the video you just shot while in the field AND if you mount the phone on the bars with an xgrip, you can see in real time what you are filming. Cool!!!

Back to the processing question... here is my first video that I made with my gopro and their Studio software - https://vimeo.com/90324233

The finished 4-5min vid when output for vimeo use is about 370MB and uploaded to Vimeo fast. I cannot remember exact times but it quick.

My best guess is that you files are just WAY too big. The Hero 3+ black shoots a ridiculous pixel count that is great for high-end production work but totally overkill for us guys piddling around the the camera on our bikes.

Yes. Did that. I think it is great having the remote by smart phone options!! Thanks guys, I now have some new software and updated quicktime as well. We'll see if that improves things.

Also the "looping video" setting sounds like a great way to travel.
