Yep, I bought one because of the cheap price. Big mistake. It is sitting on the floor in the corner of the garage now, not on the bike.
It mounts to the oil pan with 3 round rubber studs. One on each side up font and one in the center in the back. The studs have a 6MM female threaded piece molded in to one end, and a 6MM male on the other that screws into the oil pan. Kind of a bolt with 1/2" of solid rubber in the middle. At first I thought this was a good idea because the rubber would give and not break the oil pan like some have experienced with the Yamaha plate as well as some others. But they fail after a while just from the weight of the plate. ??? Mine came with 3 spares and I wondered why. Now I know. :
I used all the spares in the first year.
Now it is useless unless I come up with my own mounting system. You CAN just use a bolt and a spacer but that would risk breaking the oil pan in the event the skid plate took a hard hit. Unless I can come up with and fab my own mounting bracket, it is about useless. ::007::
