Hi guys,

read a few threads about carbon build up etc and seafoam, so i thought i,ll try some if its a good thing to add to keep things healthy great, now can i ask you guys that use it how often do you put it in a tank of fuel, on the site it says 1oz per gallon of fuel so say you put 3-4 gallons in on a fill up you must add 3-4oz.
Now thats fine but do you then leave it 3-4 months before adding again can,t believe you,d add every fill up., so how often you adding it please

cheers

I haven't use Seafoam specifically, but most of the fuel system cleaners I've used in the past recommend every 3k miles. Which since that's a common oil change distance, caused me to put it in about one tank before an oil change. That way anything that gets cleaned off goes into oil that's getting changed.

ok,
so if a buy a bottle and put the 4-5oz in to a tank of fuel, i can leave it to 3000 miles before adding again or if i,ve not not the mileage once every 6 months or so will be ok, didn,t want to add every fill lol

I use Sta-Bil when I put her away for the winter. I’ve used Star Brite additive for carbon buildup during riding season. Usually a few ounces every other tankful. I don’t always wind her out so I’m thinking it’ll help keep the valves cleaner.

I assume that it only cleans the system when the engine is running. If you're not going to be riding, I guess it doesn't matter. I've never used Seafoam so I can't tell you for sure. But the cleaners I've used have always been once every 3k miles, not every tank full.

Now, STABIL 360 advertises that it's an every tankful treatment. Regular STABIL is just for storage, the 360 is for storage and cleaning. It also advertises it protects against ethanol. Back when I was working, I used the 360 in the Tenere when I knew I wasn't going to be able to ride for awhile. Now, I only use the 360 in my mower. I use TruFuel in all of my other small engines. It already has a stabilizer added to it.

The best protections from carbon build up are more frequent oil changes, use a high quality synthetic oil, run a thicker oil, run High test gas.

I have a Hyundia Sonata with the dreaded carbon build up problem. It is a direct result of direct injection. I have not had a problem till about 100K. The engine would Idle ruff, and when I stomped on the gas a black puff cloud would sometime come out the back. I went a sightly thicker oil 0w 20 to 5w 20 mobil one oil. And installed a catch can. I also ran a can of CRC into a vacuum hose. Problem solved. The car is running like new. Shell Rotella oil 5w 40 synthetic was recommended as being the best oil for preventing carbon build up. I was not wild about ticking up my oil that much. My model year had some engines fail due to shaving in the lower end from the manufacturing process. I am out of the extended warrantee period for a new engine. (120k)

Oddly enough 5w 40 rotela T6 is a motorcycle approved oil that many of us run. I have had good luck. The same oil fixed my lawn Tactor. It was using a lot of oil. Now it uses none and runs like a top.

Hope this helps.

PS. I would not worry too much about it. When you get your vales checked you can ask them how things look.
