Congrats on the new bike!! You will NOT be sorry! By the way, I just saw in MCN where BMW now will "buy back" all '14 RT's at full price....Take the difference between your ST and the BMW and treat yourself to one heck of a vacation!! (Road trip to Alaska?). Enjoy your new ride and ::021::

Oldbear,
Thanks. Yes I am processing a buyback now. The Ten will be almost exactly 1/2 price compared to what I paid for the RT.
I had a smile in my helmet all the way home yesterday! It truly was a fun ride.
Did about an hour in the dark and would like a little more headlight though.

Yea for DonB! Another 'convert' to the wonderful Super Tenere magic. I swear that people that have never ridden one have NO IDEA what a great machine they are missing out on. As you put it DonB, this bike is not one you can just look at a 'spec sheet' and understand. You have to RIDE IT to really know what an awesome machine Yamaha has created.

Congrats on the blue 2012 model. That's a pretty color scheme. I can't believe your RT was TWICE AS MUCH as your Tenere. Wow. That's just not right. Thank goodness you can get your money back from BMW and move forward RIDING your Tenere while the weather is good. Glad you took the plunge and are happy with your choice. ::26::

I see on the Yamaha accessories page they list a couple of different bulbs plus the LED light kit. I wonder how well these options work for night riding.

A wee bit.

The reflector is more the issue than the bulb. Most people go with aux lights and there are a number of threads about various models and styles.

Now, go on an Aprilia, BMW, Ducati, Harley, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, et al forum, and see this exact same sentence about someone else's bike of choice.
Nothing new here, move along... :D

Don, I just finished installing the PIAA llights below the headlamp. Looks pretty good IMHO. Well worth doing. Shop aftermarket for the lights/mount vs Mama Yama and you can save some $$.

Merchant,
Congrats on the Burg grad. Still in the area?
Nope - got to Texas as fast as I could. Only took me 19 years after graduation. ::025::

Hello All!

In need some quick help. I am one of the "lucky" BMW 14 RT owners who cant ride it. I am looking to move from BMW to a Tenere. Seems like there are some good deals out there on a 12 or 13 leftover.

I have read about the clutch basket issue (how much to fix?) and would really like to hear from anyone that moved from a BMW to Tenere how the move is treating them.

Also is there anyone in the SW Ohio area that I could meet up with in a hurry to chat with about the bike? I live in Springfield.

Sorry for the immediacy but I have a trip I need to get ready for and this bike seems like it may be a good choice.

Thanks!

Don
Don,
I have owned an RT for three years now and just bought an S10. Ride quality and comfort is similar, power delivery is similar, engine vibes are similar (except the stock Tenere was a little smoother than the stock RT). I have logged 1500 miles on the S10 in a little over a week and will be putting the RT up for sale this week.

Need I say more?

FRR,
Yes! I picked up a 12 Blue and it has been exactly like you summarized.....a pleasant surprise at 1/2 the price of my new RT....that I cant ride and will be bought back by BMW.
I am looking forward to riding the T. In fact I put about 500 break-in mile over the weekend on it and it has been fantastic. Handles really well, cranks over until the pegs scrape even with enduro tires.
Now I can ::021:: and not worry so much about being a systems manager when riding.

I feel cramped on the older 12RT and that the engine is duller than the Tenere's. But then Don was trying to buy a wet head.
If you feel the engine power is similar, you are in for a big surprise if/when you get your ECU re-flashed.
